1/2x36 Threaded Muzzle Brake

I bought an AR in 6.5 Grendel for my 10 year old daughter to use on deer, and she really likes to shoot the rifle. One problem, there is still a little too much recoil for her, and I am trying to find a muzzle brake with a 1/2x36 thread, and the only ones I am finding are for 9mm. Does anyone know if someone makes brakes with the above thread but in smaller calibers (I could always bore out the size if it is too small). Or has anyone used a 9mm brake on a 6.5 and know if it would be effective.

1/2-36 is a goofy thread pattern for anything but a 9mm. Alexander Arms threads their 6.5 barrels in 9/16-24 which is another non-standard thread pattern. Yankee Hill makes a muzzle device in 1/2-36 for 6.8SPC so it should work fine for your rifle. Who made the barrel on your 6.5?

That is kind of an "off" threading for a 6.5 barrel...are you SURE it isn't 9/16x24?

That said...the 9mm muzzle brakes will work on the Grendel, but may not be as efficient as a smaller diameter/caliber brake. Additionally, Black Weapons Armory makes a 6.8SPC brake called the X-comp in the 1/2x36 pattern. Finally, PWS makes an adapter that takes their FSC30 7.62 cal brake threaded 5/8x24 to a 1/2x36 thread pattern.

I got the barrel from Model 1. I think I will go with the 6.8 brake. Thanks for the info guys, really appreciate it.

I just checked his math, he is right...

Model 1 Sales (M1S) puts out their Grendel variant called a 6.5 Sporter, see link: 6.5 Sporter

On the drop down box the muzzle threads are 1/2 x 36mm .

If it were me I'd pull and sale the barrel, replace it with another 6.5 barrel that has a more common thread size. Seems like alot of trouble but we know that "Daddy's Little Girls" are worth it x 10 !!!
