I know RL22 or RL25 is used but being in florida i want something that is not so temperature sensitive so RL is out. I see some great numbers from MagPro reported on some sights but not a lot of report here. I will be using 208amax and wanted to know which gives the best velocity, least temperature sensitive and easiest to meter. Thanks.

300WM & MagPro is a great combo for me. I cannot comment on it temperature sensitivity as it relates to Florida type temps.

I personally don't buy into any of the slow burning stick powders being totally temperature insensitive.

FPS: 2830-40 Powder: H-1000 76.0gr Bullet: SMK 220gr Case: Win Primer: Fed 215M

I also tried Retumbo but dont like it much with 220SMK. With the 208 A-Max it seem to work good.

If you have extra length in your magazine to seat the bullet out further, then I would use Retumbo. If you are seating it near factory length, then H1000 would be the ticket. Retumbo will get a little more velocity than H1000 with a 26"+ barrel. For ease, H1000 will work well.

I forgot to post about Mag Pro. It is a great powder and will yield faster speeds. But it is VERY temp sensitive. I had a customer we did a WSM load with this powder. It was a slightly beyond max charge that shot extremely well. But when summer hit, he was blowing primers and locking up bolts.

Thanks for the input. I spoke to Scott at Ramshot/Accurate and he himself recommended Ramshot Magnum over Magpro and said they have found it to be a lot more temp stable with similar velocities to Magpro. Is H-1000 a stick powder like Varget? Cause Varget is a bitch to meter.

LR30, Do you by chance have any velocity numbers for this load? My load data not available at this time, but I've only used RL22 for the 300Mag using 168 and 210 Berger VLD's and 180 Hornady's 180 SST. Interested in this thread. Want to play with a different powder myself. Thx.

Re: H1000, Retumbo or MagPro best for 300wm?

Magnum and Mag Pro are ball powders, and H1000 is an extruded (stick) powder. Magnum has worked well in a few loads I have tried. I don't like using it to meter out of a charge master. I like using extruded powders better, and the Hodgdon Extreme powders are the best I've found.

I just started using MAGPRO as I am saving my RETUMBO for the .338 LP and can’t find any H-1000. I live in NW AZ so I will find out how it works in the heat. Here are what my results so far,
Brass Federal , Powder MAGPRO, Primmer CCI 250 BULLETS 190 SMK, 200 BERGER 200 Hybrid Target. Shooting AI PSR 24 inch barrel. Load as follows:

190 SMK
78.7 GR
AVG FPS = 2989
COAL 3.420

200 Hybrid
78.7 GR
AVG FPS = 2978
COAL = 3.520
