In your opinion will a 10 power fixed ergo scope be proficient at distances from 75 to 150 yards?

Edit --- can it be used for steel target acquisition fairly quickly?

What type of shooting are you planning on doing. What kind rifle. A 10x scope has a limited field of veiw.
I have a 10x Sightron S3 I like it. I only shoot targets with it.

Yes 10x will be more than enough.

It will be mounted on a LWRC m6a2. 556 16" barrel with a H1 on a 45 degree mount.
I love the idea of a 10x fix power but I want to be able to use it at medium range as well as the reddot.
I just want to know if it will be usable for 100 yard steel targets.

As long as your steel isn't moving it will be Ok, however I do not feel that this is the ideal scop for this application...

I dunno, that seems kinda counter productive IMO...

You already have a H1, which in most hands can take care of 0-150 shots with ease, I see adding a 10x scope as unnecessary weight.

There are several better options. Like ditch the H1, for a 1-4x optic, or just add a magnifier behind the H1. I just don't see where a problem would be at 150yds with just a reddot on a combat style rifle?

Shooting steel at 150 yards? You're still in red dot territory. Maybe a 1-4/1-6x.

If you want to put a scope on it, look for a good used 1-4x and forget about the red-dot. On 1x with a lit reticle, it is almost like a red-dot.
My 12 yr old daughter shoots steel plates out to 500yds with a 1-4x.

practice with the H1 or get a low power variable like a 1-4 or 1-6, you do not need 10X to shoot steel at 150yds, that is pistol distance.
you can easily shoot to 1000yds with a 10X but not with your 16" 5.56 sadly and it won't be very fast either.

PS, I have a 1-4 on a 16" 300blackout and have hit steel at 560 yds so all kinds of things are possible, it depends on the arrow and the indian.

if you have a higher power variable back it down to 10 power and check it out

i've been backing my 15 power nightforce down to 10 power to see if it'll cut it to 1000 and it looks like it does

Super Sniper 3-9 or a 1-4 variable would be a better pick. USO 10X is a good scope but it's heavy and better suited to a 308 AR or bolt rifle.

I would like the 10 power for 500-800yd but If it cant pull off the 75 to 100yd steel shot also I will have to look elsewhere OR just stay with the H1.

I would personally feel frustrated trying to move around and shoot that close with 10x (unless it was intended for paper) The field of view will be limited to between 10-13 ft at 100 yards opposed to over 40 ft on a 2.5-10/+ variable. If your shooting under a hundred you may want to opt for a model with parallax adjustment with 10x on the top end (or pursue one that has a shorter fixed parallax). If you really like having the extra magnification a 2-7 may suit you well. I have a simple Bushnell elite in that range; weighs the same as my Eotech with a 32mm objective and offers just shy of a 45ft FOV.

I would be looking for a variable under at least 4 on the bottom with a higher range for the longer distances you mention. Might be worth looking at-

2-12
2.5-16
3.5-10
3-12
4-16

I appreciate the advice. I really wanted the fixed 10 power to work for me, I might have wanted it to much. The H1 with a 3x magnifier will work very well.

I realized that on my swaro 1.5-6x42, I either use the 1.5 power or the 6 power.
That is why I was planning to use a 10-fixed with the h1.

I have a USO ST10 and like the scope. I think you would be happier ruuning a 1-6 or other vari type optic.

How about a nice 3-9? SS HD or Leupold VX.
The Weaver 3-10 mil/mil is a nice option as well for $300

In theory a Vari scope would be the right choice. With a med to short range aplication any scope at a 10 power or less I am either at a 1-power or at the max power.
Why not use a fixed 10 or 8 power scope?

I will probably go with the 3x magnifier with my H1.

OR because my eyesight is starting to fade I could get a fixed 6 or 8 power with a red dot reticle/crosshairs and then sell my H1.?
Thoughts ? ? ?

NOW on to the next issue. Can I mount my H1 on top of an aluminum reciever on a Berreta 1201fp 12ga without it "shooting loose"?

Variable power scopes have certainly changed the landscape of precision rifle shooting but the rule of thumb years ago was magnification times the yard line: 3= 3x power scope and 10x gets you out to 1000. My old USMC 10x Unertl still gets it done to 1000 no problem. With that, what you have listed as intended targets and engagement ranges with your specific rifle and caliber look at the offerings from Bushnell in the 1-6x with a ranging lit reticle and this may very well give you the versatility you are looking for. Bushnell is looking at producing a 1-8x but I'm not sure where they are at with that project. Good luck in your quest and let us know where you end up and why.
