Rifle Scopes Viper PST vs HS

Re: Viper PST vs HS

Just like their acronyms, PST (precision shooting tactical) and HS (hunting shooting). The biggest differences are the illumination and the reticle choices. The Midway special was a sort of hybrid, with an external windage knob and mildot, but with a mag factor of 3, vs 4 of the HA and PST. Both the pst and hs are offered in FFP, so it all depends on what type of shooting you will be doing. As for glass, I am pretty sure glass is sourced from Japan and both scopes assembled in the PI.

Re: Viper PST vs HS

Thanks. What I figured but some guys were saying the PST was sharper or brighter, etc. Didn't make sense to me except maybe sample variation which definitely happens!!! BTDT

Re: Viper PST vs HS

I own both the 6-24 PST FFP Mrad and the 4-16 HS LR and the glass is the same. You have to look through both with the same objective sized bells. The HS comes in both 44 and 50mm.

Re: Viper PST vs HS

Is the HS LR with the XLR reticle a wishful thinking "coming soon", or has Vortex announced that they will indeed be coming out a HS LR XLR model?

Re: Viper PST vs HS

the XLR MOA reticle is in the 2012 catalog; FFP, it is basically a PST for all intents and purposes. I believe the MSRP will be 950 on it...I wonder why they are doing it in MOA and not mrad? A co-worker of mine just purchased the Viper HS LR BDC with the 50mm obj. It is a damn nice scope for 600.00.

Re: Viper PST vs HS

You're right. Actually, I was thinking/referencing the SFP model which does not come with the XLR reticle. I am in the market for a first scope for my new 700 SPS Tac and have been looking at the SFP HS LR model, but would really like the XLR reticle better. Thanks

Re: Viper PST vs HS

My understanding from talking to a Vortex rep is that their Glass is made in japan, Scope parts are made in the Phillipines and they are assembled in the US.

The HS is virtually the same as the PST with different reticles and no illumination.
The specs for the 6-24 models are listed below. The differences are in blue.
