Have been looking for quite some time for my AR, and have seen all kinds of reticles (donuts, donuts with dots (like the FC-2), crosshairs, mildots with various part lit up, the Trijicon triangle, the SWFA three-bar, etc)...

Anything out there currently or close to release that equates to an Aimpoint with a 3x magnifier? The Short-dot seems to fit the bill, but I don't want to pay more for the scope on my AR than the SWFA 5-20x I have on my precision .308!

The VX-R patrol line also has a 1.25-4, but its not true 1x.

I've heard the Burris MTAC is a good low-priced option. Trijicon's 1-4x is supposed to be daylight-visible too and is higher end.

I'm also interested in this topic if anyone has more thoughts. Daylight visible illumination seems to thin the crowd quite substantially.

My Vortex PST 1-4 isn't daylight visible.

Re: Any daylight-visible variable scopes with red dot?

Consider the Kahles K16i, brightest daylight illumination available. True 1-6 and even has a spare battery compartment built in. Not to mention, an incredibly large field of view that really helps to get you on target fast. Compare it to any other short range 1-6 etc and the specs alone speak for the optic.

Have a look from CS Tactical : http://www.cstactical.com/Rifle-Scopes/Kahles/Kahles-K16i-1-6x24-30mm.html

And if you would like some photo, video etc of the scope or reticle, don't hesitate to ask.

Ken

Re: Any daylight-visible variable scopes with red dot?

For the price Trijicon is a great option. I've been using one on an AUG clone for a couple years and it's great on an AR. Definitely daytime visible but it uses ambient light to illuminate the reticle so the reticle is black in darkness.

I just bought the Vortex Razor 1-6x and it's definitely daytime visible. It's a bit pricier and the reticle is really more suited for 3 gunning but for a variable powered red dot it's great. Glass is super clear. Only downsides is it's pretty heavy and you could almost buy 2 Trijicon's for one Razor.

Can't go wrong with either IMO.

Re: Any daylight-visible variable scopes with red dot?

I've got that triji in #4 amber dot mounted on a suppressed 300blk AR. The tritium is the ducks nuts on predators at night, but with the fiberoptics the daylight keeps it really bright.

Value/performance under every condition and no batteries required.

I put the 3-9 amber on my babe's 17FB and a 2.5-10 red triangle on my 22-250. We are an around the clock, predator killing machines

I did start out with an aimpoint m3, but the red dot was too bright to get on a red fox at night and just too big for small critters at 100yds. That's how i ended up with triji.

My Vortex PST 1-4 isn't daylight visible. </div></div>

Then your battery is about dead, or you are using number 1-5 that are ment for night vision. If its not daytime visable on the higher power settings call vortex and send it back

The PST 1-4's I had in the past were definitely not what I would call "daylight" visible. Now the Meopta ZD 1-4 and the Vortex Razor HD II 1-6 are most definitely daylight visible. The Vortex 1-6 is visible even in the bright Az. desert in mid day.

ive used quite a few diffrent pst 1-4's and Ive never seen one that wasnt daytime visable.

From vortex site

Illuminated Reticle

Professional-grade illumination: designed for daytime, low light and night vision devices. The top five settings (6, 7, 8, 9 and 10) are visible in the daytime, depending on the background color. Settings below 6 are for low light use when the user's eyes have adjusted to lower light levels. Lowest settings are intended for use with night vision devices.

Ive looked at bright lights and I can still see the ilumination just fine if I have it on the right setting

Re: Any daylight-visible variable scopes with red dot?

Outdoors, mid-day in a bright, light colored desert like environment, the PST 1-4's illuminated reticle washed out on all 4 scopes I had. I ran them in every environment you can think of and had the same experience.

I guess it all depends on what you consider "daytime illumination" - They are nice scopes, just weren't bright enough for me.

Also, the OP asked for vari power scopes with red dots. the PST 1-4 is not this type.

Re: Any daylight-visible variable scopes with red dot?

Can't really say much about the viper pst line, but I definitely agree with the sentiment that the razor 1-6x is definitely daytime bright. It has 11 illumination settings and here in California where it's almost always sunny out I usually use it around 8 or 9. On 11 even looking into direct light the red dot still stands out. I usually try to keep the red dot as low as possible but still bright enough to catch your eye quickly. When it gets too bright the dot gets way too large and it bleeds onto the reticle.
