Hello all, long time lurker, first time poster. I've been wanting to get into some "longer range" shooting for awhile now and wound up picking up one of the Dick's Sports Black Friday Varmint packages in .308. I have a new stock, bottom metal, base/mount and SWFA SS scope on the way.
Question is, I did shoot this rifle the other day to do a little break in. I ran a cheap box of Remington 150gr Core Lokt's I had laying around with no problem (surprising accuracy with the Chinese scope that came on it!). However, I then switched to a box of Hornady Superformance 150gr SST (brass marked "Match") and had trouble lifting the bolt handle and extracting spent cases. Upon inspection, the primer shows signs of cratering and the primer itself looks to have been pushed out to where the bolt face halted its movement. The case rim also has a small 1/8" wide spot that looks to have been mashed flat and stampings almost eligible (probably the ejector turning on the rim of the stuck case). The small scratches I did find on the body of case I was able to verify came from the feeding process and not from within the chamber.
Has anyone here heard of any issues with these Hornady loads causing similar issues? I've been through the hassle of sending guns back to a manufacturer before (Remington actually) and the process is long and drawn out so I'd like to verify rifle vs. ammo issue before moving forward. I will pick up a box of Fed. GMM 168gr this week as well to see if the issue is persistent with that ammo. Any advice as to what else to look for and diagnose the issue is appreciated.
Thanks for a great forum as well
