I'm buying a new ced chonograph and I like to use a boresight to make sure I don't hit anything. Will most likely be set at 20 to 25 feet from bench, to minimize any error from muzzle blast.

I know the green lasers are easier to view but are much more expensive.

I found a red laser cartridge type a sightmark cartirdge boresighter. Would this one work?

Any other cartridge boresighters recommended?

Boresighter will not be use to sight in rifle or pistols, on with the chronograph.

Re: boresighter for chronograph use only

From my experience, laser bore sighters aren't all that effective in sunlight, or daylight in general.
Stand behind the unit, take your bolt out of gun and eyeball works ok. Not so with ar's.

Re: boresighter for chronograph use only

I just bought the center point Center Point kit from Walmart for chrono use, it came with inserts for everything from .17 cal up to .50 cal. I think that for setting up a chronograph just about any laser boresighter will work since we're only talking about 20 feet maximum. I primarily use the boresighter to align the chronograph to the gun, which is already aligned on target. It's a quick, easy way to set things up and make sure you don't send a round through an upright or into the brain box.

Use the one attached to your face.

Pull the bolt out and sight down the bore.

You can do this on ARs no problem too. Just pop the lower off.

You should ALWAYS be lining up first on a target, leave the rifle in the rest pointed at the target, then line the chrono up to that sight line. You can still sight on the target with the lower off and make sure the bore is not pointed at the chrono.

Re: boresighter for chronograph use only

I first set up my rifle on the front rest or bi-pod and rear bag sighted in line with the target.
Then I position my chonro appox. 10 to 15 feet from the muzzle.
I insert a red laser in the barrel.
I use a card board targets with either cross hairs or a 1" circle in the center of these targets which fit inside the chonro screen openings.
Using these 2 card board targets ( front and rear ) I place these targets in the opening of the chonro screens and align the targets to the laser beam dot. My barrel is now centered in the screens.

Re: boresighter for chronograph use only

Close but slightly different.
I make my " targets" so that they fit and stay in place without having to hold them.
I also mark them with either crosshairs or a small circle at the correct center.
I like to use 2 targets so I can align the front first then remove it and see where the beam hits the second ( back) target.
But, yes, it's basically the same thing.

Re: boresighter for chronograph use only

I have Ced M2 on it's way to me.

I read Trigger Monkey's "Easy Chronograph Set Up" atricle and if I use walt k's additional steps I think I will not worry so much about hitting unit.

So thanks to all for help.
