Looking for input on a sling.

My rifle is 15 pounds. I seen a picture of a sling that was more like backpack straps?

I have a mcrees precision folding stock, Any one have some good input?

I will be packing this rifle a mile or so at a time. walking from stand to stand while hunting.

Thank you for any input

Re: Sling Options

Personally I feel slinges just get in the way. Same with rear monopods. If your chassis fits in an eberlestock gunrunner you should look into one of those. I can draw my rifle from my gunrunner without taking the pack off my back and after shooting with a rear monopod I'd rather have a rear bag. Just my 2 cents. Having a rifle in a pack is way more comfortable than a sling will ever be.

Re: Sling Options

Some dudes just don't have Eberlestocks and/or don't like them.

Some guys like to run light and go sans a pack using a war belt or chest rig instead.

Some competition stages require the use of a sling or benefit greatly from using a sling.

Sometimes slings do get in the way but the nice thing is that with most stocks and chassis systems a sling can be removed and attached as needed.

There's a flip side to every coin and I'm a proponent of having a good sling and knowing how to use it.

I've used TIS Slings, TAB Gear Slings, Turner Saddlery Slings, and Mountain Shooter Slings. All of them were good in their own right but my preference is for the Moutain Shooter Slings, simple easy to use slings from a good friend.

Re: Sling Options

That mountain shooter sling, Looks nice.

I would also like to learn to use a sling for positional shooting. I compete in a local .22lr match and plan on stepping up and shooting in the center fire match also.

I have thought about the Eberlestock pack, I would not mind test driving one. seeing how my rifle fits. ha ha. In my mind it seems like it would be the most comfortable if I wanted to cover alot more ground. And it sure is not flat where I live. alot of ups and downs.
