I thought I'd share a project I've been working on at our Career Technical Center. I've been running our Haas Mini Mill for a while now and decided to make a new forend for my Mcree's Precision Chassis. I was trying to go for weight savings while maintaining strength and try to program it long-hand instead of using something like MasterCAM or other CAM software. This mostly was just practice for taking my NIMS CNC mill test.

I'll snap some pictures if it tomorrow. I haven't bothered to take pictures of it.

I still need to do some CNC work, sandblast it, and Cerakote it FDE.

Here are the pictures so far. I'll have to slot a couple of the holes. I was off on my measurements for them. Overall though, I'm pretty happy so far. It made the rifle feel less bulky.

The barrel just clears with about 20 thousandths on each side. If I were going to do a production run of this, I would reduce the wall thickness. I went with .200" thick walls for strength.

Frap, that OE fore-end sure is heavy isn't it? I understand why people use the McCree's but man is it ugly, isn't it? haha. Good job on the attachment, makes it unique and that barrel should cool off quick too. I like how you upgraded to the Grovtech flush cup over the aluminum ones too! Thanks for sharing.

That's a realy nice project! A couple of quick questions:

How much weight is saved vs. the McRee front end?
And, how does the center of gravity (balance point) change for the setup?

The weight saves is only about 8 oz. The balance though is noticeable. It's now more rear-heavy, which I like. It makes it easier to point offhand.

I would so pay someone to churn up a replacement forend (same size/length as factory) but with a square front end instead of the ramp.
