Re: Current APA status 8/24/11

So damn cool with the SSG. Is this something you are going to be willing to do in the future or was this a one time thing? I have been wanting to do a build on one of these actions for a very long time. I love the action and trigger (single trigger), but have yet to find someone willing or set up to rebarrel it. Now just to get the bottom metal figured out.

Good to hear about the new family, congrats and enjoy!

Re: Current APA status 8/24/11

With a pressed in barrel it doesn't lend itself to a build well but it could be done. The work would be a little beyond the normal scope of things but doable. The bad deal is the plastic magazine system. It would be hard to justify that much coin into a system with a plastic DBM system.

This was just a thread project on a rifle with a pressed in barrel and a backwards bi-pod. I left it that way for the photo ;-)
They are doable but require extra time and effort. I actually take them to my buddies shop and do them there because we don't have a lathe big enough to do it. Nothing about it is ideal so I don't generally look for the work but it is doable. It's interesting working with a 24" chuck

Re: Current APA status 8/24/11

I know we have talked about it on the phone in the past and you were not really set up to do one then. I thought this was a rebarrel and you may have got some new toys in the shop. I know it would be quite an expensive project to do, but I like the actions for some reasons.

This was just a thread job and I take it else where to do it. We don't have a lathe with a 3" plus spindle in the shop.

Gotcha, looks like all the corners are rounded as opposed to having an angle to them (except the important corner that is). Maybe my TRG will be wearing a crown like that soon, sooner than later if it keeps shooting the way it has been...

Thanks for the reply, Jered. Do you take back orders or have a wait list? If so, put me down for a pair of the 34mm ultra lows... I'll be happy to send or call with the payment. Thanks.

Another little AR-15 headed to a happy customer. The smallest group we fired during break in was in the Mid .1's I can't remember for sure. I do remember the largest group was a .7

At 400 yards the 5 shot groups were mostly .5 MOA or less and the 1 10 shot group had two in the wind that opened it to 1 MOA.

Here's just a quick shot of my rifle during load development. Going with 41.6gr of N550 showed pressure signs at 41.8. That first 41.6 group was a cold/clean bore group. I'll take it though LOL I'll start dancing off the lands here to see what she really likes. These were shot off a bipod. I know people here prefer 5 round groups but with powder and bullets hard to come by I'm fine with 3 shots till this "madness" subsides. Again thanks Jered for a wonderful rifle and since you know me, she's been kryloned and abused already. Between ladder tests group tests with different size bullets and brass she has over 300 rounds in her already. Here's the load so far

260 Rem
Lapua Brass
139gr Scenars
41.6gr N550
CCI #34 primers
.01 off lands

^ "Split Pea". It is even better in person. The barrel color is unique. Got to see it while dropping off a rebarrel job earlier this week and must say whoever this belongs to you should be very happy!

I posted this in another section as well, so if it looks familiar, well, that's why. I figured I'd also put in here being this is an APA master piece and can travel along with all other APA builds. With that said, if you want a custom of all custom precision rifles, give Jered a ring, you won't regret it.

I got the new APA 6xc this past weekend, and just wanted to share the results. Above is what she looks like.
-McCree stock
-Geniess Action
-26" Bartlein Barrel 1-8
-Little Bastard Brake
-AI AW mags
-Atlas Bipod
-APA 'Tank' Rings. These things are flat out badass
-Premier 5-25x56 Scope

This is literally the first 5 rounds down the tube. 5 shot group at 100.

This is at 250ish. Another 5 shot group.

Here is what I'm running:

-105 Berger Hybrids
-39 grns of H4350 its running 3030 FPS
-.020 off lands

Overall this thing is a laser. It shoots way better than me. Aside from the 6XC consumables being non existence, I'm very happy with the caliber. Along with Jereds knowledge with chiseling metal, this should put me were I need to be for a long while.

Considering you haven't even "worked the load up" yet I'd say she is certainly headed for greatness. If I understood you correctly you just stuck that load in there to see what it would do correct?

Thats right Jered. After talking with some, and researching, I decided to start with that load. What would be the chance of hitting the perfect load on the first attempt?

I just wanted to give everyone a heads up and let you know that we aren't currently taking in any work that isn't a complete build or a barrel job. We have a lot of work in the shop right now and in an effort to keep everyone happy we wanted to make this temporary move. We have over 70 Broughton 5C barrels in route and we'll continue to take in barrel jobs. We want to thank all the customers that have stood buy us and we look forward to serving you guys as efficiently as possible. We will pick this work back up as soon as we catch up but right now we need to clear it out and stay focused on our full build customers.

Thanks for your continued support.
