Boston Marathon Explosion

Yahoo is reporting two dead, several injured. Also reporting that a third explosion may have been a controlled det. I doubt that, those usually take some time to set up. Not like they just locate a strange package, roll up and drop some HE next to it and blow the thing in place. I could be wrong, but I highly doubt a controlled det occurred that fast.

I wonder what Al Jazeera is reporting?

Looks like JFK library explosion is unrelated.

Hope noone's friends and family are among the injured... and kudos to Boston's first responders... Fire, EMS and especially those wearing blue. Stay safe today.

Will be interested as this unfolds.

Stay safe, Sirhr.

How could it be unrealted? That'll be interesting how that plays out...

Talk of Saudi National in custody at hospital... Boston Downtown was home to 4 of the 9/11 hijackers..

How long till they blame the "gun nuts"?

Already been done
Hi CypressJeff,

Let's not confuse "right wing extremist" with "gun nut." I, for example, am a certifiable and certified member of the latter group, but in no way belong to the former. When these guys talk about right-wing extremists, I rather suspect they have in mind the Aryan Brotherhood, the Aryan Nation, the All-White People's Aryan Resistance Extreme Knitting Committee, et cetera, not ordinary gun nuts like us.

From what I've seen of it, it does look like something some of the radical right-wing fringe groups might try, but I still more suspect Al Qaeda; the whorish attention-grabbing efforts behind it just seem indicative of them.

It looks like authorities have found and deactivated several more devices, the most recent in front of Mandarin Hotel. Not counting the fire at the JFK library, I think that makes three neutralized devices now, doesn't it?

I don't understand the mentality of it either. I mean, this is so far off the moral rails.

fwiw i saw on facebook that ballbearings were found at the scene? if that doesnt scream arab nations i dont know what does, smaller explosions with high impact radius.

Our thoughts and prayers to all the victims and their families. Unfortunately it goes to show a person or persons intent on harming others will use any means to do so, they don't need a gun.

Fairly sure that photo has been photo shopped. One of the news websites has the same photo and the guy still has his legs. they are mangled for sure but still there. Also don't think he would still be conscious, no blood trail so he would have already bled out.

Boston Marathon bombing - Slideshows and Picture Stories - NBCNews.com

Sadly his injuries are very real. Bilateral amputee of the lower extremities consistent with IEDs. Seems as though tourniquets were applied in which case it stopped the bleeding and quite possibly saved his life.

Tragic that this is the America that our children will inherit.

My prayers are with those that are injured, those that have lost a loved one, and those that were lost. I just hope this isn't the start of a wave of like bombing across our country.

I did hear there were amputations, If I am wrong about the photo shop well that sucks. I did see some graphic pics and fully understand the horrific nature of what happened. I guess the fact that he looks conscious amazes me if he does have such horrific wounds. News is reporting 3 dead now.

+1. Unfortunately, if some shit head(s) wanted to do damage, they'll find a way. It's pretty surreal for me because my dad ran in the Boston Marathon a few years ago. I remember the security was pretty loose. It's basically like a parade, anybody could just walk up to the side of the race.

Dude this is America and Boston is a walking city. Lets not get all up about we need more security. Last time we felt that way we got DHS and the Patriot Act. Security did pretty well considering they were able to neutralize the follow on devices (as has been reported). You will not be able to avoid risk in a free society and I dont want to live in a risk free society.

I started my morning with watching the reenactment of the skirmish on the Lexington Green in Lexington. Those that died there did not do so intending we would eventually live in a police state.

They would be getting even.

My prayers go out to the families. Luckily, there were so many first-responders on site already.

Sorry to say....At least a gun wasn't used.....Bombs are already illegal, so, I'm interested to see where they go with this one.

I foresee banning black powder laws being promoted. Those blasts looked like 4-5 lbs of black powder. Good thing that the scumbag didn't take into account that the first two blasts crashed cell phone service from 5000 people dialing 911, so that's probably why other bombs didn't go off. Just a theory....now they have cell phones, and hopefully video of who bought these phones.
