Will a Atlas Bipod handle a 20 pound rifle?

Just wondering if an Atlas bipod will handle the bigger guns. I have a 20 pound 338 Lapua and 27 pound 408 Cheytac
and I just think the Atlas isn`t built to handle guns of this weight. Whats your experience?

I've had my atlas bi pod on a 21lb rifle for around 6K rounds. Its getting a little loose now, but still working fine.

The Atlas is better built than the GG&G, trust me on this as I had the GG&G. If you're worried about the weight of your rifles on the bipod, the LRA bipod will suit you fine but the price is nothing short of insane.

It looks like they are made for a rounded forend. My stocks are more square than rounded. Will they still work?

That I could not tell you as I've never handled one. Sorry, man. I'm sure someone will chime in soon.

I have one on my beast of a rifle I think its around 25lbs with the can attached and the atlas bipod works just fine. I am quite happy with it. You have to get used to the little wobble before you load it but once you load it its rock solid. Rifle specs are a 26" bartlein barrel in 6.5 creedmoor, Badger M2008 action, AICS 2.0 Chassis, Vortex Razor HD 5-20x50, Thunderbeast 30P-1, and the atlas 8.0 in spigot mount. I don't have thousands of rounds through it yet but I dont expect to have any issues with it.

I've got the LRA tactical varient on my Chad Dixon .260/Manners T5A setup. The latter has a somewhat squared forend and the bipod works just fine with that: there's enough space between the rail attachment and the carriage (for want of a better word) of the bipod so nothing hits. LRA makes very strong and stable bipods and on my pretty heavy rifle the tactical size works well (18lbs). I haven't tried the F-class version so can't help there.

I've got Atlas bipods on some other heavy tac rifles (18-20lbs) and really like them also. The Atlas bipods tuck away better when folded and are quieter when you're moving/running than the LRAs-the latter have lock nobs and extension locks that rattle a little. Don't know if any of that would be an issue for you but something to note.

excaliber, thank you for your interest in the Atlas. While the Atlas was designed for 30 caliber and under rifles, we have had people using the Atlas on their "heavy" rifles, with the upgrades (what some call V8.1) reports of reasonable success have been received. However, we have never recommended the Atlas (V8.1 or any version) for the heavy rifles as it was not designed for that platform. While it'll support the weight, it's the combination of weight and recoil that stresses the components beyond their intended use. This is why we are bringing out the new Atlas 5-H bipod as it is designed for the heavies up to .50 BMG (read no 20mm!!!) and your rifle will be a perfect match for the 5-H. So if I could make a suggestion it would be stand down on buying an Atlas until the 5-H is available later this year.

(and before you naysayers start in, with the "you've been saying that for over a year now" PLEASE understand that the 5-H is my priority AFTER satisfying customers for our current products)

Hell yes it can take it. Buy one and don't look back. My rifle is around 15 without ammo. The Atlas is as good as it gets if you ask me.

6K rounds of .338 Lapua @ 5$/round is $30,000. After spending $30,000 on ammo you are really going to begrudge a little TLC to your $219.00 bipod?

Have a LRA F-Class... it is Very Sturdy. Have it right now on a 18lb 22-243 35* stock has 2.5" forarm clears no problems. it is wide, stable, rock solid. if they weren't $475 i would have more of them. It was on my 110BA prior to this gun. You can litterally stand on it in the deployed position mounted on your weapon.

The company that makes the MRAD 338 Lapua recommends a Atlas bipod. Your not going to damaged it, and once you shoot with it, your going to like it.

My MRAD came with the Atlas and no problems so far.
