I havent been on much or been shooting much as work has been my #1 lately. Well I closed out a contract a couple weeks ago and have had time to slow down and get covered by shit...

I spent last week in Midland TX (Hell...). Anyhow I was trying to shake some tree's and find some work for my crew out that way.

Monday I left my glasses on the dash of my truck and the Transition coating broke down rendering them useless.
Wednesday I was getting ready to head out towards Big Lake and while moving a cooler from the front passenger seat to the back of the truck I set my MB-Pro on the hood of the truck.
Took off and got up to about 60mph when something hit the windshield all of the sudden. Kinda looked like a bird through my dicked up glasses so kept going. I got to Big Lake before actually realizing what the hell happened.

Its a solid $1500 lesson for sure but I have been hard at work on putting out fires before they start.

Macbook was purchased prior to my 2011 trip to Iraq and includes details, pics, and documents of my adventures, work, and other issues plus TONS of personal information including the PDF document of my SF86 filing, Passport scans, ID's, SS Cards, Wife/children SSN and Info.

I was able to get back to the scene and found my cover that was 10' off the road. It had tiretracks on the top and rocks stuck in the bottom piece. Nothing else.
Imidietely hooked up the Find my Iphone app and setup the computer to erase the hard drive when it comes online. It had a screen lock but looking online it appears thats the downfall of the Mac as its very passable...

    So far I have:
Set to Erase when brought online
Filed a missing report ( I dont expect to get it back but you never know)
Spent Friday changing Email, Forum, and other account passwords
Enrolled in a years worth of LifeLock for entire family

Anything else that I might be missing to do?

Its funny its not the $1500 computer that I am worried about its all the information on said computer that really worries me.

On an up note I did get a Offer Letter on Wednesday to take another gig in another shitbox. Some might take a computer going south as a sign that it wasnt meant to be but I havent been to said country so its worth a look.

BTW switching back to a PC from a MAC blows.....

I stopped and picked an IPAD up from the middle of the roadway 3 weeks ago. Dont get excited it was in MA. The screen was junk, broken glass, and the battery was exciting the pixels enough to create some funky rainbow skeem through the broken glass surface. There was a day planner with the IPAD. No contact info on either item.

I called a nearby MAC Store to inquire if through serial number they could locate the owner. They dont have that service. I found a contatc for a meeting the person had planned on the next day and they were able to confirm who they had a meeting with at the time listed in the planner so I was able to get the guy back his property. The IPAD was useless but Im sure the planner was good to have back. The gent did same as you and left it on his vehicle. It was the most expensive cup of coffeee he will ever stop for.

Becareful when finding such damaged electronics. The battery of the IPAD got so heated I was concerned it could start a fire.

This reminds me that I need to secure my laptop far better than I do . I don't take it many places with me but much like you have copies of passports , SF86 form , etc. on mine . Having someones SF86 would probably be better than having their license or any other form of ID .

Sorry for your loss but your pain is my gain . I think I will spend tomorrow night transferring everything I wouldn't want someone else to have to my portable hard drive and lock that in my safe . No Softball this weekend so maybe I can look at some encryption programs for my laptop as well .

Hopefully the hard drive wipe works if someone manages to get it fired up .

It's a solid lesson for sure due to the massive amount of potential life wrecking information contained on such device. I spent most of yesterday moving such information off of the PC I am taking with me as it contained most of the same information the MACbook did.
