Got to start this thread by saying this. Not a big Tom Cruise fan, every film he is in he has to be the freaking hero and never gets a scratch, bla ...bla. Of course he's the last fucking Samurai... Ok got that out of the system.

Oblivion was a total sleeper awesome surprise. I had no idea it was the Tron director either (not a real fan of the new Tron). I am surprised that Oblivion did not do to well in the theaters. I thought it was very imaginative true Sci Fi. The characters and production value were well thought out, not to mention the very interesting story. Lastly very good special effects.

Yup, it was Joe Kosinski, who you might remember from SIGGRAPH 2001 or so when he did some early Mental Ray in MAX demo stuff as part of KD Labs.

Well, I remember him showing stuff from Mray off at an Autodesk booth, not sure who he was working with? Pinkle talked his ear off.

Funny, but I bumped into him (Kosinski) up at the Ranch and thought he looked familiar, we were in line at the commissary. My buddy told me later that he was the new Tron director. I though he was joking. For whatever I though before.. your only as good as your latest film, so in this case he did an excellent job.

Actually if you look at the lower of his long rifle I'm pretty sure it's from an ACR. They just put some shrouds over the top to make it look all sci fi.
