 ROUND3((((( 100 YARD !!! ))))) BULLSEYE BONUS!!! All 30rounds are no further than .75" from dead center of bullseye to dead center of bullet hole!!! This will produce a 1.5" circle around dead center bullseye. If you think you made it this far, then please provide additional caliper pic of your single most furthest bullet hole from dead center bullseye (out of the 30 bullet holes, pick the bullet hole that is furthest from bullseye, and provide picture from dead center bulls to dead center bullet hole... easy as that!) This might sound easy if it was just a single 5shot group or with a bolt action, but times that by 6 total groups with a semi-auto! Rather hard, but obtainable! You can try going for this option if you want, but be forewarned,,,, you will most likely destroy your bug hole point of aim. Nice option to have tho! (STARTS TODAY 06/07/13, NOT FOR PAST ENTRIES!)

ROUND3((((( 100 YARD !!! ))))) THE SHOOTOUT OVERVIEW!
I thought this would be really fun for us Semi-Auto platform shooters to really show off your bad A$$ rifles and sniper's hide shooting skills in the Semi-Auto community. Enough of the "shoots .375moa all day long @ 100yards" talk, and to actually walk the walk!!!... Lets give those bolt action guys a run for their money! If you think this will be easy, then think again. You will never know until you try it! Will purchase a shot for the first .375 average all day long crown! LOL

Please, only picture / groupings post only!!

HERE ARE THE GUIDELINES TO POST:

1.) At 100yards (please be honest about this 100yards), all 6 groupings, 5shots each, 30 total bullets (no more, no less)... Must be on one large target about 2'x3' (or smaller target if you can fit your bad ass groups on 8x11 paper).... What ever size you think you can get 6 groups @ 5shots each on.... Can NOT be on individual targets. MUST BE on one target with 6 total groupings, 5shots each, 30 total bullets. That's it!! Would prefer 6 total @ 3/4" to 1" round sticker type targets on ONE large poster size target (or just use a black magic marker to make the 6 target markings). All consecutively shot. Shoot as fast or slow as you want, but must be shot within that day!!... If your one piece of paper / cardboard doesn't have 30 bullet holes, it doesn't count..... Bullet holes must be easy to see in your picture!! This is NOT about bullseyes!! All about grouping size average and your best group size!! All in good fun people... .25" or 5",, show off your skills baby! Just try your best! Everyone is welcome here regardless of skill! Piston or DI, AR or M1A, it's all semi-auto cool baby!

2.) Can be any caliber Semi Auto type platform. 308, 223, 260, 30-06, what ever. SEMI AUTO ONLY!! No bolt actions!!!

3.) Can use any type factory or reloaded ammo. What ever works best for your rifle.

4.) cough, honestly measure with calipers the distance of your two furthest bullet holes of each 5shot groupings (((center to center of each bullet hole))) and write this measurement IN LARGE FONT BLACK MAGIC MARKER right next to each grouping (6 total measurements). Either measure middle to middle OR outside to outside and deduct bullet diameter (end of topic). I really don't give a shit. This is all in good fun. Just be honest or I will call you out on this.

5.) Post close up picture of your best SINGLE group WITH CALIPERS showing the measurement!! MUST BE WITH CALIPERS!! NO RULERS ALLOWED!! If you don't have calipers, then go buy some. They are only $20 bucks!! Sheesshh, stop being such as cheap A$$ !! JK... Please be honest with your measurements!!! No coins or objects for scale!!! Just hard core measurements.

6.) Post picture of entire target showing all 6 groupings / measurements with calipers still on your best grouping!! NO picture, then it didn't happen!!

7.) In your posting, add up all 6 measurements and divide by 6 for your average MOA shot. Example, 1.12" + 1.01" + .56" + .75" + 2.25" + 3.46" = 9.15 divided by 6groupings = 1.525" average.

8.) Please, be honest! No shooting with your bolt action and playing it off as your semi-auto!! NO SHUTTING OFF OF GAS BLOCKS as this would turn off the semi-auto nature of your rifle. Can adjust gas block if needed, just can not shut it off all together!!!... In short, your bolt must make a complete cycle after the shot taken... You can not manually cycle the rifle on each round!!!

9.) If you do reload, feel free to post your load specs!

10.) Post what type of semi-auto rifle, ammo used, and how you took your shots (prone, bench, bipod, sandbags used, blah blah blah)........... No lock down gun vises!! Sandbags are ok, bipods are ok, monopods are ok.... If you are using a vise, then you are not really shooting the damn rifle and a monkey can shoot the rifle for you.

11.) Please post a picture of your rifle with your entry!!!!

12.) there is NO SUCH THING AS "FLYERS" in this shootout.. any possible "flyers" you might have count as your group!! damn those flyers!!!

13.) Please put the type of rifle, your sniper's hide name, and date you consecutively shot at the top of your target!

14.) As long as you follow the rules, have 6 groups @ 5shots each / 30 total bullets only, then feel free to post your results regardless of your average / single group size even if you don't make the leader boards!! You can not have multiple rankings / measurements on the leader boards,,,, only your best entry will make the boards with your one rifle.... You can however, have multiple leader-board entries by using two completely different semi auto rifles. In short, you can make as many attempts as you want with your rifle in order to improve your standing on the boards / get the best possible outcome with your rifle... no limits on entries..... the only way to be on the boards more than once at the same time is to use two different rifles.... Rock out as many semi auto rifles / entries as you want. Time to bust out that semi-auto collection!! All info is good info. Each rifle is different, has different optics, has different purpose, and different operators!!!! Be respectful of everyone's postings! Sub MOA or not, show off your rifle and skills! This is all in good fun!

15.) In the event of a tie value between multiple people, the first person to post wins.

16.) Only M.E.O.C.W. gauntlet test targets are allowed to have more than 30bullet holes in order to save time, bullets, and targets for perfecting your powder drop loads while also producing multiple entries on one pc of target paper for these shootout threads. 17.) IF and only IF, with a semi-auto, you get ALL 6 total groups, 5shots each, consecutively shot in one day of shooting, AT or UNDER .375moa ON EACH GROUP @ 100yards, THEN you will get the esteemed title of, "This person, (your name), with this semi-auto rifle, (type/brand of rifle), shoots .375moa ALL DAY LONG" on the original post!!!! You will be required to have caliper measurements with pics ON EACH GROUP if you think you made it this far!! No cheaters or you will be called out if anything looks fishy... Until then, you are mostly just full of BS! Which also goes for myself! I do NOT have a .375moa all day long rifle! My rifle and myself are more like a .8 to .9 all day long kind of team!! JK LOL

Starting out round3. First shots with my new rifle. 35rounds down the tube after my sight in target. Got sub-moa all day long & bullseye bonus. I'm pretty pumped right now about the new hammer.

im 100% positive you will love this upper especially for the price.... its totally solid.. When and where are you getting the upper from? directly from RRA? I know this rifle can do better also as the mirage today was really bad and my targets were jumping all over the place. There is no doubt in my mind that this rifle will run some ungodly groups. I was going to run the 300yard test, but the mirage was bad enough at 100yards and wasn't going to waste the ammo when going for group shots.

I have the 20" varmint RRA barrel and am just waiting for the upper. They won't say when it'll ship. Could be several more months.
It's in a race with the White Oak 24" varmint upper I have on order.
I'm sure that rifle will definitely shoot better once you "bond" with it.

I am super happy with my rifle's performance, less so with my own... But not bad for rounds 54-83 on the rifle. I certainly learned a lot.

1. I need to slow down. Both between shots and between groups.

2. I have the attention span of a gnat.

3. I can't wait to get a new scope. This one is great on a GP carbine, not on a precision rifle. The reticle is far to thick and I wish I had parallax adjustment.

4. With this optic, I need slightly larger circles, my reticle completely covered them when perfectly centered.

5. Shooting from sun(with it in your eyes) into shade is harder.

6. NPA seems to be 8/10ths of the key to groups with this rifle.

I probably won't shoot this again until I get my new scope and atlas bipod(a few more checks).

Oh, and it was a ton of fun too!!!!

Nice rifle Ptrlcop.

You have made cogent observations about your shooting that make sense. Nothing wrong with your results. You have a lot of money in the rifle now it sounds like you will be dumping same into optics.

I look at these posts like amateur porn - my favorite type of porn actually. Sure everyone likes to look at posts with 1/4 inch groups just like they like to look at professional porn stars and their perfect bodies. Reality I aint shooting 1/4 inch groups nor is my 1/4 inch dick, weathered body, pulling the perfect bod chicks. Those perfect chicks tend to be bitches anyway. Still waiting. I will be all over this challenge when it arrives. RRA sent the barrel, but I'm still waiting on the upper assembly. In the meantime, I ordered a 24" WOA varmint complete upper. So I've got two new lowers waiting for two nice rigs to arrive. I also started competing in F-T/R NRA highpower matches and am shooting very well. Lastly, I've got my credentials for the upcoming SHOT show this January in Las Vegas. Anything you're interested in? I can visit the manufacturers and post a report.

I had to remount the scope on my sr25 this morning with my warranty replacement bobro mount so I headed to the range this afternoon. Conditions at the range were less than ideal (dusk, cold, slight wind) and time (and daylight) were short, but when are field conditions? So, after zeroing, I decided to shoot the challenge on a piece of scavenged target to contribute. This rifle is .5-.7 moa in a lead sled, so I thought this was a good test of conditions effects on accuracy.

Rifle: 2001 kac sr25 (mk11). 24" blackened stainless barrel. Completely stock, low (sub-1000) round count. Swfa 5-20 scope in bobro mount. Gg&g bipod. Way of the gun sand sock.

Ammo: 3 groups were cheap prvi 165 sp. 3 groups were 175 pulled smk reloads (42.3gr 8208 XBR and Russian primers) in the prvi brass. Smk groups on the left, prvi on the right. This was a budget shoot out as far as ammo.

Overall, I was a little disappointed even given the conditions and non-match ammo.

Average group was 1.126 moa. Best group (pulled smk hand load) was .591

1.581+1.260+1.178+1.170+.980+.591 / 6 = 1.126

I will reshoot with a better target in better conditions and post a true sub moa all day long target when time allows.

All targets shot at 100 yards, 3 consecutive 5 shot groups.
Harris bipod 6-9 swivel with pod lock, with pistol grip resting on sand bag.

The rifle is a stock Colt 6920 MP-FDE. It has around 1000 rounds through it and is more accurate than when it was brand new.
Scope: Vortex Diamondback 2-7X35 mounted on a Burris pepr qd

For the average calculation of all my groups, I only took into account the first consecutive 3 five shot groups. I have noticed that the 4th group opens up systematically with all ammo. I’m sure this is because of the barrel heating up (I’m not letting the barrel cool down between each 5 shot groups). So to get more relevant results, I’m excluding the last 5 shot group.

- Best average group (3 consecutive 5 shot groups) Fiocchi 77Gr SMK: 0.93 Inch (all groups under 1 inch).
The first group on the center is 3 inch high (heavier bullets shoot higher), and the elevation was corrected for the following 2 groups (Vortex scope dials true)
- Best 5 shot group: American Eagle Varmint tip: 0.77 inch (average 1.2 inch)
- Last target is some cheap American Eagle 223 55 gr FMJ, with an honorable 1.38 inch average grouping

This is my 1st entry and even though it's nowhere near some of you, i'm still pleased. My load development consists of randomly picking a charge and trying it. lol I'm sure my shots will get better with more "development." I have shot plenty of tiny groups with this rifle but i have never been able to do it consistently. For now, i'm just happy i was close to averaging MOA. This is my 1st semi-auto thats larger than 5.56 and i'm just starting to get used to driving it. I also have the 18" SS barrel that will shoot a couple groups in the 2 inch range and then will randomly shoot an absolute bughole. This barrel has frustrated the shit outta me. I sent it back to LMT and Gene Swanson sent me back the barrel with a target of .62" (pictured below). I was seconds away from selling it but decided to keep it only due to the potential it randomly shows. A couple days later, i calibrated the junk torque wrench that came with my MWS and it turns out that when I thought i was torquing the barrel @140in/lbs i was in reality only torquing it to 116in/lbs. So, to say i'm excited to shoot an entry with my SS is an understatement.

Average=1.117" Best Group=.795" (I wrote 1.14" average on the target but that was "center to center". When i measured "edge to edge" it was 1.12")

Here's a couple pics of what the 18" SS has INCONSISTENTLY done.

Also, I NEVER clean my MWS and it never fails.

All my reloads were 3x fired WIN brass and have never been cleaned. Just sprayed with lube and sized. lol

Lastly, i've been testing the myth about not firing the last round in the mag when shooting for groups. I have always thought that it wouldn't make a diff because the bullet is lone gone before the bolt starts to unlock and so far thats exactly what it seems. I have noticed no POI shift on the last round.

Trident182 did a test of the significance of torque in relation to accuracy. He found you could go from a pretty low torque (don't recall how low he went) up to the 140 and there was little effect on accuracy.

There is a plenty of people criticizing the LMT torque wrench. Mostly because they over torque and snap barrel bolts ($10 per bolt from LMT and every owner should have some spares on hand) Id prefer they not include a wrench and give me a second magazine. I suspect magazines are more costly than the wrench though.

The LMT wrench may give repeatable force amounts but it seems like the setting shown may not be what you think it is. You could stop a Snap On truck and have them do a quick test to know if the tool is repeatable at any setting. Be aware that leaving torque wrenches set is a no no and they should always be dialed back to 0 after use. Im surprised LMT tapes the wrenches as I doubt they do that to their own tools. If you find your LMT wrench will give a repeatable 140 at one setting sure keep it. If not buy a nice wrench from the Snap On guy while you have him stopped.

PS - Love the bolt pics. You must feel very liberated by detaching yourself from the bottle of Hoppes. Awesome decision, debateable in its correctness, but hey its your rifle, its not failing you and its seems no worse for doing so. I imagine that extra gas is just whats needed to push through the mud.

Yeah, It does feel pretty liberating not cleaning any of my semi autos. I will eventually clean it but I have noticed no downside thus far. I used to clean after every single range trip and meticulously. It would take me an hour to clean an AR.

That's interesting about the torque wrench. I took the factory tape off of my wrench to use it for something else and I just set it back to the graduation closest to 140 inch pounds. After realizing it was only torquing to 116 inch pounds I believe it is now set at 168 inch pounds But is actually torquing to 140 pretty consistently. Right now, I'm going to go set it back to zero because I didn't know that about the torque wrench that it was bad to leave set. Thanks for the info

ETA: I agree that the extra gas in this LMT is helping it stay reliable. But on the other hand, I also have a DD 5.56 with a .062" Gas-port that has been 100% reliable w/o a single cleaning. In addition, i regularily switch from junk steel cased ammo back to brass etc. without cleaning the chamber. Many times ive had a mag half full of steel andthe other halfbrass. Only have about 1,000 rounds through it though.

Don't take this the wrong way when i say this..... Trust me when I say this as I've shot an insane amount of groups out of my LMT & other AR rifles.... you're rifle has the potential and the off-hand bad groups are you,,,, not the rifle... It is just running a big caliber .308 AR is not easy at all. Your groups look no different than mine when I first got my LMT, and it wasn't until I got about 500plus rounds down the tube & serious load development did I actually start to see really good groups, and I got my first "sub-moa all day long" with the LMT after about 1k rounds down the tube..

Elfster, Thanks for the info. No, nothing is taken in the wrong way. I actually wanted to hear that it was more than likely my inexperience then my tool. I don't want a tool that can't outshoot me. Honestly, this last outting was the first time I actually felt like I was driving the rifle half properly. I'm very excited to get some more time behind it. On the group that was 1.69 inches, there is one shot that opened it up to that and I can confidently say was my fault. I watched the crosshair slightly move before ignition. Without that shot, I would have been able to say "MOA all day". Damnit lol

Pmmclain, I am familiar with tridents test on the torquing but I'm not sure how low he went. If I remember correctly I don't think it was quite to 116 but regardless, there was little to no change in his groupings.

Also, just to be clear, I'm not trying to set any trends or anything with not cleaning my weapon. Lol. Nor do I advocate it. My weapon is dirty simply for the fact that I am lazy. I would much rather it be sparkly clean. Now, the DD, I am purposely trying to see how many rounds it will go before failure.

Very pleased with the Palma brass as this was a fireforming load and I dropped the shot on #1.Small mag primers with small flash hole created a slight hangfire with AA2700 ball powder so had to go back to 4007 for the palma brass.Wind was crazy.I'm very happy with the .243.Load is close to the top and no primer problems or pressure signs at all.
