This is just a 'learning experience' project I'd like to do. It's not being done out of necessity or lack of 6.5 CM brass.

I have a bunch of LC brass, more than I'll ever need for my .308 Mega MATEN, and I have a 6.5 CM bolt gun. So, if you've got some wisdom and experience to share on forming .308 into 6.5 Creedmoor, please share!

I have a FL RCBS die for the .308, and a Redding body die & Type S neck die for the 6.5 CM.

I was researching in how to do this, I was going to create a hydro forming die I could use with an air hammer, so i could blow out the case.

Haha, it probably would have worked.

I would have gone .260 Rem if I wanted to make brass from .308...

I didn't want to do it, I just happen to have extra brass and figured I'd give it a shot. I have plenty of Creedmoor ammo and brass, so it's not a task of necessity.

Took. .308 winchester used fired brass, Neck sized in .308 die then trimmed to 1.910 (creedmoor trim length). Removed the expander ball from the creedmoor full length die and ran the .308 case through it. NOTE* lube well, (I use "One Shot").Replaced expander ball and ran the .308 case through it again. Seems to have worked very well. The neck is a little thicker so it should probably be trimmed down. As for the rest of the specs it was almost identical (a little under actually) to a fire formed Hornady case from my old DPMS. Thanks for the idea Matt. As long as it chambers fine It should work great.I have about 1k rounds of used .308 brass (4x's fired) which should give me plenty of trigger time a cheaper cost. I plan on using reduced loads to fire form to the chamber and work up. Then full length resize to bring the case back down to final spec. I'll let you know how it goes.

So this looks like it would work. I would anneal the cases first to soften 'em up. Though now that I'm thinking through more of the process, I'd have to acquire some cheap bullets for the fireforming stage, which could double as practice time for trigger control, wind calls, etc...
