I got this doe on the 27th about 2pm. It was pouring rain so no pic of her but I wanted to show the damage done by a 300 blackout rifle with a 10.5" barrel can do. The round was a handloaded 125 grain Hornady SST. The doe weighed about 125 pounds. Next to the one I head shot this was the fastest kill I have ever had on a deer. The bullet struck, she dropped like a stone. Then she got back up and walked about 8 feet. At that point she kinda looked around like "crap I think im dead" and crumpled. Whole time from shot to death was about 10- 15 seconds. Iwas extremely impressed with the bullet. The shot struck just in front of the right front shoulder angling away and exited out between the 4 and5th rib on the opposing side. Found two small fragments of the jacket in the hide. The exit hole was an inch wide at least.

what are you doing trying to re-invent the wheel-theres been a cartridge around for many decades that does the same thing. its called the 7.6X39 and i first took a whitetail buck in wva with a colt carbine in 7.62X39 in 1992. been doing it ever since and plinking ammo is dirt cheep.

Something happened with your links. Looks like the site abbreviated them or something so they wont load.

Glad to hear 17.5gr of H110 does a good job. I settled on 19gr of H110 for my 125 SST load but haven't gotten the chance to try them on meat yet. Maybe next weekend or the following. Just a bunch of young does and spikes this morning.

now now guys lets be gentleman and listen to each others opinions..... lol
yep a lot of times on game animals the average person will make a better killing shot if the gun not beating them to death.
problem is with those kinds of guns and ammo - no room for error, a bad shot usually is a really bad shot with them.
glad your having good luck with it though. i'll stick with my ugly 30/30 (hahaha) though

I shot my first few deer with a BAR 243. Of course the 300blk wadnt around then. I think this is the perfect learner cartridge. A new shooter isnt or shouldnt be taking long shots anyway and this thing has dang near no recoil but still packs a decent punch. With all the options out there these days it really makes it easy to choose what works for you.

For most of the hunting available here a 308 is substantial over kill. In our woods there are no 300+ yard shots. Average around here is under 100 with under 50 being normal.
It uses the pistol powders I already reload with
Zero recoil even in "hot" loads while still launching a 30 cal bullet
Substantially quieter than 308 even supersonic
Lighter than most comparable 308 rifles and cheaper to build/buy
I love how people who do not like something have to crap on it to prove their points. If you don't like it, don't shoot. I do, so I will.

Oh, love 30-30 too....gasp
Ok, sarcasm rant over

I love my blkouts, so do the kids! I cant seem to reload ammo fast enough for them! Glad to hear your hunt went well. Im going to try my luck with mine in the next week or so using 125ng BT and 110gn barns blktip. I have heard great things with the 125gn sst for the blkout, I may have to load some and give them a try.

I'm planning on shooting a deer with mine this year. I got it mainly for hog hunting in south texas brush though. I've grown up using a lever action open sight 30-30 for this, but I've decided I would like to have 20 rounds of 30-30 in a shorter, lighter rifle that has a flashlight with a green light bulb attached to the side. Not sure which round is "better", but I like the way my 300 BLK is set up.

30-30 FP bullets make GREAT 300blk SUB's...

For a short accurate barrel or long one for that matter I would go with Noveske, AAC, AR stoner barrels arnt bad at all either. I have a 8" Satern that I really like also. Your can hunt with subs but most will NOT expand unless your paying $1.00 each just for the bullet. SMKs and Amaxs wont expand, a few bullet makers are making some that do but like I said they are not cheap.

I have some cast lead 247 grain bullets I've been working up loads with. 10 grains of RL7 seems to be about perfect. I get clever leafs at 50 yards. The problem is that I am having trouble getting them to chamber properly. I think they are deforming the case neck.
