I did a search and looked in other parts of the forum, but didn't see this question.

So hopefully it hasn't been asked too often.

My G.A. Precision Thunder Ranch .308 is due to arrive in Spring/Summer. It will have a 22" barrel and NF NXS compact scope.

I would like to buy a nice soft case for it in the $200 range. Prefer leather over nylon.

Any suggestions or links would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Why not nylon?

I like the new Pelican Storm cases Pelican iM3300 w/ Custom Rifle Cut Foam

And the Starlight cases New Innovative Products, Inc. - Starlight Cases - World's Strongest Protective Cases - Unconditional Lifetime Warranty - Virtually Indestructible

I have an older Pelican case. I don't use the foam though, I use an Eagle drag bag for the padding.

I use a separate hardigg case for my range accessories (stands, stakes, tape, stapler, etc)

Ammo, I use ammo cans for transporting them.

I have a padded 'roadie' case for my optics & electronics.

Hard Case = Storm or Pelican (who now owns Storm). It will come down to personal preference of those two and each has its fan club. I prefer the latches on the Storm.... For that length of rifle, you May be able to get away with an IM3200, the IM3300 for sure will work and can cut in half your house to take with, but may be a bit long if you want something easier to transport.

Soft -- I had HasGuns (NP) build my case with backpack straps et al and did a great job for me many years ago, others out there from SOT, Eberlestock E2B "Sniper Sled" Drag Bag

Or the 'budget' softies from Voodoo, Condor etc.....

As with the Eberlestock, depending on the overall length, you can mash a soft case into the appropriate hard case, but will take a bit of homework - to get the best of both worlds.

BOYT VARMINT RIFLE CASE W/ POCKET | Brownells

I've done very well with BOYT canvas cases. Carried my Patrol M-14 in one, in the back of a patrol car for almost my entire career. Same for my 870 carried in front of the seat. Both cases are still very much useable, though simply dirty.

The BOYT Varmint case may be longer than you want, though it's WIDE which is what you need as you may have a large scope and bipod installed.

I've got a mess of hard cases which work fine for travel or if the gun is in the back of a pickup. But a Pelican case will turn an already heavy rifle into half an unwieldy package through sheer weight pretty quickly.

All that said...I just went Tactical Fan Boy myself and ordered up a TRIAD soft case for my new build. Great case. Though costs double the Boyt Varmint model. BUT...It does have enough room for a lot of gear and it IS Multi Cam!
Also has room for a one piece cleaning rod and can double as a shooting mat. Plus...did I mention it's Multi Cam?

if wanting nylon I have a couple ncstars and can't see where the extra money brings anything to it. buddy has an eagle and quality is about the same. nicely padded folds out for shooting mat and has straps all over it. I have this exact case (rectangular) in sand color and it is very well built and works well enough as a shooting mat. Use it for my Savage 10BA-LE. It can be a little lumpy as a mat on concrete as the pack shoulder straps don't want to lay flat but if you are on the dirt you don't really notice. Been using it regularly for the last year and there are no rips, tears, zipper problems, etc. It has stood up very well. Even thinking of buying another as my LR-308 with a 24" barrel doesn't fit in my AR discreet cases as it is too long. I separate the halves on put it in a Voodoo tactical dual AR gun case now to get it to the range.

I have one of the Triad Precision Rifle Carry Cases and love it. I got the 52" and it has enough length to hold my rifle with the suppressor attached (20" Bbl, 8"can) with about 4 or 5 inches to spare. There is enough room inside to keep a rifle, data book and rear bag with no issue. It is well put together and comes with plenty of movable hook and loop tie downs. 2 large pockets on one side have lots of room for additional gear. It weighs half of what my previous drag bag weighed and the weight is much more balanced at the handle. I have been impressed so far with this product and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. I have had great luck with all of the gear I have gotten from Triad over the years, one of the reasons I switched to this case. Check it out or give them a call, I doubt you will be disappointed.
