So I am trying to help my father decide on a new scope for his custom savage build and we are having a tough time deciding between these two scopes. I only have experience with the Vortex PST lineup and have only heard great things of Sightron. So from those of you guys who have both, have had both, looked at both, but not have heard things from friends of friends wifes husbands ex boyfriend. Looking for opinions based off experience.

This scope will be used for shooting prairie dogs, and MOA sized targets to the extent of 800m max. Any and all help with this decision will be greatly appreciated. Are there any better choices for the given budget?

What he is looking for is:

Magnification 20x or more
.1 Mil Turrets
Mil-hash type reticle, no dots (prefers horus reticle, but currently out of price range)
crisp turret clicks
side parallax adjustment
Rough price 1k

The scope he purchases will hold him over until he finishes his next build that will wear a Vortex HD, until then he needs something for his current setup rather than his redfield scope.

The consensus is that the Sightron has better glass, but you don't get the illumination or zero stop that the Vortex offers. I've been trying to decide between the two and it just comes down to what's more important to you.

they have an illuminated model in moa now. idk if there coming out with a mil version or not. right now i have a vortex pst 6-24x50 ffp moa and i love it. havent been able to compare it to much tho. actually have it for sale because something came up. if i sell this one, i may try the sightron next

Ended up purchasing the Sightron, hopefully it will be here in the next few weeks and tested. Weather is pretty bad for the time being. I hope to get a comparison between the two scopes here in the next few weeks or so.
