Good news for the large bolt action crowd.

I have been doing more test on the Assassin Muzzle brake and some of the results are in.

The original design of the Assassin was for the 50 BMG M82A1 Barrett and had to function in a recoil action.

After tuning recoil is reduced enough to render the M 82 A1 inoperable, the good news is that by tunning the brake to the load it can reduce the big 50 to that of a 300 Win Mag.

The 660 gr load in a 35 LB bolt action without a brake calculates to be 92.6 Ft/lbs of recoil after tuning the Assassin and installing it the recoil is reduced to 36.4 ft/lbs recoil. (60.6 % reduction).

The 750 grain load in the same rifle produces 101.3 ft/lbs recoil and with the tuned Assassin 43.6 ft/lbs
for a 57.1% reduction.

Most bolt actions are heaver than this , so the recoil will be less.

Also the 408 Chey tack can be reduced by 63.7 % with the 419 grain load/bullet and 67.2% with the 305
bullet/load.

Now that I have some numbers I can check the performance in your rifle if anyone wants me to. When the Web Site is finished I will have a functioning program for averyone to check there own recoil values using the Assassin brake.

Thread pitch on the 50 BMG brake is 7/8'' 14 TPI .

You can PM me for more questions.

Interested as I have an action to be built into a 50 DTC late next year and haven't found a brake for it yet. Keep us updated on the websites progress.

Sounds like a great project !

I don't know much about the DTC but would like to know more on your build, What action, barrel, cases and bullets you are going to use?

I have Dave mansion cutting me a reamer for my new 338 project (A 375 RUM case pushed to its capacity limits of 119 grains
case capacity).

It is not a like a 50 (But what is) but it should hustle a 300 grain 338 bullet.

I'm in Ca so the only option for a 50 is the DTC round. It's almost identical to the BMG but the case is necked down 1/10 of an inch and I believe the case neck degree is improved slightly. Other than that it uses the same components. Action is a Bat tactical non repeater bench rest action. It weighs in at 8.5 lbs all by itself! I already ordered a Bartlein Barrel. 1.75" tapered down to 1.25" at the muzzle and will keep it around 30-32". I'm thinking a Manners 50 stock and that's about how far I've gotten with the idea of the build. I'm still not sure who is going to build it as I wanted Spartan Precision to do the work but his lathe isn't quite big enough! As far as bullets there's only two people that make and sell the DTC round. I'll probably have them make me some rounds and if I end up shooting it enough, I will invest in the reloading setup. I think PTG carries the appropriate reamers for this caliber. Should be fun when it's all said and done, in a year or two. No rush for me as this build is going to be expensive. Plus I haven't reached the full potential of my 338 Lapua yet. I still need a lot more practice at ELR.
