I was wondering what method works better for most situations. I understand some competitions have tougher time constraints than others and there might not be a "BEST" option. What are your thoughts based on your experience? Which method will help me decide on a reticle. I reserved an AX308MC and I am looking at the Nightforce BEAST with a H-59 or maybe the Mil-R reticle. I like the idea of the H-59 to hold on a point on the grid and not into dead space on the reticle. Although the Mil-R might be better because of the simplicity drawing your eye to the clear intersection under stress. I have not had trigger time with either reticle and am new to the long range competition game.

Don't waste your time on a Horus...
It was designed for Hunters on Big Game who never practiced. It's thick, it's busy, it's just mils... you can do the same thing with the same amount of practice using any mil based reticle.
You'll mostly use a combination of both, and the fact you can bring your focus into the "Center" of the scope and reticle is a Huge Plus. Do not underestimate how our brain works and our brains do not like Grids under time constraints and stress.
The Horus is meant for MINUTE OF MAN inside 600m... wrapping your head to make it work for something else does not change this.

Yes, I don't care for the Horus. It makes my head hurt if I look at it with nothing to shoot. The buisiest reticle I like is the G2. Its only available for bushnells though. Only downer for me. I like most anyCalibrated reticle though. With my NF's the NP-R/MOAR in MOA work great, The Mildots in most scopes still are fine in my book. People have been doing well with these for a long time. Just because new things come along doesn't mean that the old ones still want work. (A 69 Camaro is still cool) Yes, things have been improved but until you fully understand the basics, stick to the basics. No need to jump ahead. I started out with a Mildot reticle with 1/8 MOA turrets and don't regret it a bit. Just learn the basics and after a while you will know what you want. If I were you I would want a matching set though. I think a F1 would be a good start since your looking into a FFP Nightforce. Really simple and they hold their value well. It doenst have to be a scripted process just find something you can understand and go shoot.
I just checked Mile High Shooting. $3298 for Mil-R vs $3783 for H-59. That is a lot for just a reticle change. When you get the mil version of the BEAST, what is your choice of reticle going to be? The Mil-R or the MD 2.0?
I concur with the comments above. I could dial my elevation into my turret just as fast as using the Horus reticle. Then, I lack all of the clutter that is the H-59. The mind games you play when trying to figure out the holds places the point of impact between dots and then smaller dots. Under stress (time constraint) you will rush and then miss the shot entirely.
Go with the reticle you feel comfortable with, but the best thing to do is to try them out yourself, if possible.

I have said enough in different places already... My schedule is just a bit crazy right now as I have another trip this week.
Needless to say, it's worth every penny for the BEAST. All I would be doing is putting everything I have already said about it in one place.
If you have not gotten on a waiting list for Pre Order not sure when you'll be able to grab one time wise, but I am sold on it.
