I have never thought on this before so it has never occurred to ask, and google and youtube turn up little on the subject.

Vortex Razor 10 mil in a bobro mount on a SR 25 ER. Federal GMM168. I don't have a chrono but some reading dug up a mv of 2560 or so out of a 20" barrel. The Razor, as mounted has about 18 mils of up left.
I'm on the boat right now so I can't check it precisely.

A quick check in BulletFlight says I'll need a little over 18 mils for 1000 yds( no I don't have a range that long yet, I'm just doing as much research as I can now and 1000 seems to be a magic number). I take that to mean I'll be at max elevation and barely make it on target. Am I understanding this correctly? At what point should I consider a sloped riser or a canted one piece mount? Would the riser be too much sugar for a dime? I hear bobro makes a 35mm 20 moa mount but then I'm having to sell the one I have and take a loss, I'm sure. In other words, I don't know what direction to go in. With my Mk12, the effective range is within the bdc dial so it's just point and click. The Razor is taking some getting used to( since 05 the MK12 has been my precision 'long range' rifle. Bdc got me close enough for government work, so to speak) as I haven't been in the mil click game very long.

I haven't been able to spend much time with the SR, as in about 110 rounds in a year and a half through it. Work and all that. I don't mind searching more than I have but it seems like either I am not asking the right questions or the info I'm looking for isn't consolidated. Thank you in advance.

This is what had me head scratching. Maybe I read it wrong or G.I.G.O. I'll look at the jbm.

Yeah something is wrong there. Without even running those numbers that 18 mils sounded wrong. Make sure all your inputs are right. The thing with ballistic programs is garbage in--->garbage out.

Great. Glad it worked out for you. That definitely sounds more realistic than the 18 mils. Getting that input info correct is huge with these programs. With your numbers of elevation and temp JBM says 12.8 mils so you should be real close.
