Hi,
Has anyone ran a 22 Nosler in a bolt action with a high BC 80gr Berger or Hornady? I was wishing for 3200-3300 fps out of a 26" barrel with a 1:7.7 twist. Give it a long free bore to take advantage of the powder capacity, but keep the COAL just inside an AI magazine.
This sounds like it would be a laser beam, hell on chucks, yotes, and pigs. At my elevation the energy would be close to a 1000ft/lbs 500 yards.

I think most are going to find that he little 223 sized case head will not be as strong as they're looking for. You won't run the same pressure as a 22br or 22-250 or 22-47L. Now if you have a 223 action and want a little more speed without a bolt swap, it would be a good choice for that. Seeing as 3000fps isn't that unheard of in a 223ai with 80s I wouldn't see those speeds being a problem for the new nosler.

So it's the smaller case head in relation to the body that makes it unable to take the same pressure as the standard case?
Dose this happen with other cartridges like the 300wsm, 7mmSAUM, or any other short magnum?
Are you able to run a 300wm at higher pressures than a 300wsm?

First the wsm and the WM have the same case head size so in theory their primer pockets will handle the same pressure; all other things being equal. The problem is the small 223 head vs a standard or even better a standard with a small primer pocket. A rebated rim isn't the problem it the fact that is 223 sized. There just isn't that much material there.

like I said though, if you have a 223 action and don't want to buy a new bolt and want more speed than a 223ai will offer, then it seems like a good choice. Don't let me deter you from building one! Give 'er hell, and let us know how it goes.
