Thanks R! Your target was real fine as well. I particularly liked your rig and set up. Hard to beat working out through open windows in the country side. Happens here quite a bit too ;)

tnichols - that's some fine shooting from a "lowly" stock 10/22 (even if it is a Target model with a trigger upgrade). Sure made a splash.

The weather was good and the wind wasn't bad at lunchtime, so I grabbed some take home work and booked.
Got the work started, ate a chicken salad sandwich (Mrs. Tucker makes awesome chicken salad by the way), and setup the targets on one those wiry little political yard sign frames. Those things are great for lightweight portable target backers - as long as the wind isn't too bad.

The clouds rolled in and wind turned into a DICK about the time I got going with the Anschutz, but I stuck it out.
By the time the queued up the 10/22 the wind had the damned thing flapping and rolling the X as much as 3/4" off the crosshairs. I think this may have actually helped though, because I'd hold the shot until the X came back to center and wait for it to happen again.

I just ran the R50 on both rifles. My Center-X is usually better on the Anschutz, but I have more R50 on hand.

The worst part about putting 25 rounds in the same bull is that after a while you're shooting at a hole.

250 a bunch of X on the second target is fantastic and the first target is none to shabby.

Your shooting permits you to do gear videos for EDC man purses and we will be required to buy them.

I think a good semi has the advantage in a 25 shot group because you get more rounds from a set rest and position.
I used the 10 round mags on the Ruger and 5s on the Anschutz, so it was three sets vs 5.

The Ruger is bone stock, bull/laminate, but with a Kidd trigger job kit.
I have tried the Titan stock and X-ring, mixed and matched with the factory wares, but the Ruger setup is unbeatable.

Here's a sexy shot of the chicken salad.
It has pressure cooked chicken breasts, walnuts, craisins, sweet pickle relish and Dukes.

Ha, ha prior to my other post I was thinking of asking if the CS had cranberries in it because I thought that was only a thing from my neck of the woods (New England).

Roast Turkey and chicken salad are the only two places the cranberry should be used.

I know I am late to this party but I didn't get home to RI until Monday and weather sucked until this afternoon.

Here is mine...along with the bow; my Anschutz 64MPR LH from the custom shop. BTW, this Prime ammo rocks.

It is funny...3 days before Rob made the post, I signed up for the class Frank is teaching at LRI in NY.

I definitely will next time it is offered though. I have met Rob before and he is an awesome person and Granby is way more convenient than NY.

Here's a couple for ya, the CZ455 is the stock barrel, some tune up work and suppressed. Its the gun I shot at PNTC last week..the group was shot prone.

The other is a 1939 Winchester 75, using the pictured setup testing Eley Edge in it for the first time.

Had about a 4mph wind quartering from rear left and both were shot quickly..

Yeah, I guess my point was more that it was not intended to be shot from a bipod and sand bag like f-class. The A-23 is affectionately referred to as the "bucket bull" in SB prone. If you aren't shooting a 200 with 18-20x on it with a sling,you probably aren't going to win. The NRA record on that target in the 50 yard match is 400-40x with something like an additional 65 x's with iron sights, and it's around 160 additional x's with scope.

honestly, i think shooting from a sling is a LOT more stable than shooting from a bipod/ bags.....and a lot more consistent, especially for long strings of fire.

Agreed. You fella's might get a laugh outa' this, but I found this simple little challenge to be difficult. Why? I shoot 22LR around the "yard" for fun, typically on live, moving targets in the wind. Once in a while I'll sit down at the bench and plink away with the 10/22 at 100-200 yards on steel. With that being said, I found the challenge to be fun because it took my out of my comfort zone for the following reasons:

Low contrast between target and reticle...i.e. black on black. I even tried turning on the illuminated ret, but it was too dim in broad daylight.

Rifle does not even remotely fit me. LOP is way too short. Couldn't find a comfortable fit/position that felt normal/good. This one is on me.

Shooting on paper. In flat, grey, light, I was unable to see my hits on paper with 10x until a hole started to form. No instant feed back from steel or splash to make corrections.

And finally, long string of fire. I'm used to setting up, taking 4-6 shots at distance, record data, and move on to daily tasks/chores. To concentrate on fundamentals for 25 shots took me out of my comfort zone.

Conclusion: I knew fellas with dedicated BR rigs and Annies that regularly compete in this discipline would crush this. It's easy money. I took on the challenge to find my weaknesses, and hopefully earn the right to pick on Veer and 1J04 a little...:). As a pistalero by trade, I'm still learning this rifle monkey business.

I'm fucked when it comes to heavy metals poisoning.

As a kid I remember holding a pellet or two in my mouth to make a quick reload in my break action Yugo pellet rifle.

High school science class had some sort of experiment setup that consisted of a rubber tube filled with mercury on a stand that kept the tube bent in a horseshoe shape open ends up to keep the mercury contained but there were no caps on the tube ends. We would spill out a little mercury and play with it on the granite lab table. I had a cross pen with a gold plated metal tip. The mercury amalgamated with the gold plating. I wrote with that pen for years.

I'm not advocating my stupidity, you are doing it right, I guess the time I save on the front end by not getting the gloves will probably limit my time on the back end by cutting my time short.

I think a lot of this particular challenge is how you chose to approach it as well. I didn't wait for a no wind day or try to cherrypick any conditions..not that I'm saying anyone else did either.
I got out the first day I was able to and shot in the light rain with the screwed up wind that was blowing through.
I ran through each mag with the CZ just like I was shooting a timed comp stage..fire, run the bolt, get back on target, fire..until empty. I was using the time to practice getting my shots off quickly.

With the Winny, I took a little more time between shots but it was because I was testing a box of Eley Edge in it that I've never shot before. Fortunately enough for me, it shoots SK std. + noticably better than it shot the Eley Edge...that's a welcome result for the wallet!

The idea behind the post is less about results more about it would be nice to see that members, we can all be "opinionated", actually have access to something resembling a firearm that propels an object through space to hit something else.

The owner/mods of the site give everyone the freedom to post within the bounds established but its just kind of adds something knowing whether or not the person posting on "Snipers Hide Bear Pit" has actually pulled a trigger.

We may not have race, religion, politics or sexual orientation in common but at least we have fired a gun. For all we know the most vocal keyboard commandos, advocating how prepped they are for revolution, may be hoplophobic.

It makes me despise the trolls here just a little bit less knowing we share a desire to learn marksmanship - just a little less mind you...

Snow here in the northeast. Ill shoot my Winchester tomorrow.

Firing up an M40 today at a torso target in tribute to Hector Cafferata holding off the Chicoms that made the mistake of trying to get behind First Mar Div at Chosin.

If Id known it was going to snow this much I would have brought something plastic instead of wood, oh well.

I dont think this is the load for this gun - 42.1 of 4064 and a 168. 4895 at 42 is where it wants to be. Somehow I put these 4 together at B and if whatever I did to get them together could be bought, Id buy lots of it....
