    .
just curious to see if any of yall race/ track?

this was my last track car

    2013 Mini cooper S
    1.6L turbo @ 20PSI
    alcohol injection
    100 shot nitrous injection

    350WHP.......this thing would outrun SRT8s and M3s........

just got rid of it....trying to decide what to replace it with.....thinking something with a straight 6......

I raced amateur 600 super sport in the early 2000's. Always have a sportscar something or other, for track days. Quite a few tracks here in socal. Currently have a c5 z06 vette. I built a heads/cam dry sump ls7 for it three years ago. 610hp/564tq. Total beast! I like it more than the c6 z06 I had before it.

Currently running a 2014 MX-5 Club edition. Slowly collecting parts for a GM LS3 430hp powertrain swap. The aluminum block LS swap only changes front to rear weight distribution by just 0.7% heavier to the front over the iron block 4 cylinder. Gonna need better tires!

a 430 hp LS swapped MX-5.....that thing is gonna run like hot damn!

My all time dream car is a Shelby Cobra roadster, but it has no roof if you get caught in the rain, hence the MX-5. The MX-5 is only about 200 lbs heavier than the 427 Cobra. The LS engine with the Cadillac CTS front accessory drive is the most compact configuration. Power steering and AC can still be retained. Well worth the extra 200 lbs over a real Cobra! A company called Flyin Miata does turnkey LS swaps as well as selling all the parts to do the conversion.

I used to Auto-X my 2001 WS6 Trans Am but the faster I made it, the more I had to choose between Auto-X or drag racing. In the end, I chose drag racing. Now, it won't turn all that well with a solid anti-roll bar in the back and 3.5" wide wheels on the front.

running 10s, damn good time...been thinking about getting into drag, i have a feeling that could become expensive pretty damn quick, haha

Get ready to break parts. I have gone through 3 posi units and 6 or 7 sets of gears. After the 3rd posi unit took a dump I went to a spool, hence, no Auto-X anymore. Took out a drive shaft, snapped two toque arms, broke an axle...

I guess dumping the clutch at 7,000RPM on a 28" tall 10.5" wide slick puts a little bit of stress on metal parts.

good driving man, more specs on the car?

    Thanks.

The car is a 2013 Mustang GT Track package
Still has the original motor that has been rev limited to 6400 rpm and has the stock air box and manifolds. Still run the car with cats. Will be replacing the manifolds with long tube headers and removing the cats to find more power. All of that was left on to meet 2016 rules.
Custom roll cage by Vorshlag Motorsports
    MCS double with remotes
    AJ Hartman Racing wing
    Vorshlag front splitter
    Boss 302s front control arms
Boss 302s LCA and relocation bracket
    Multimatic UCA
    18x11" Forgestar F5 wheels (2 sets)
    18x11" Forgestar F14 wheels (2 set)
    Tire Hoosier R7
PowerBrake 6 piston front brakes with their pads
OEM rear brakes (because of being a solid axle car) with Carbotech XP10 pads
WL Watt link - will be replacing this and adding Cortex Watt links

Car is built to 2016 NASA ST3 rules of Max HP/Weight of 9:1
NASA 2017 changed Max to average HP/weight of 10:1
My car sits at 324 average HP/ 3737 weight with driver and 1/2 tank of fuel
My goal is to get the average HP to 385 HP

well damn.....i guessing you had some choice words for that driver when you saw him in the pits, eh?

yes... but truthfully i was not quite right in the head. hurt to talk, almost back to normal now, headaches getting better & balance almost back. Can i use this as an excuse for my pattern a bit larger than normal?

My suggestion for anyone that wants to auto X or road race is to look into the rules of your local clubs. Also, go to some of the events you think you might be interested in doing and talk to the people. For a cheap inexpensive way to get started you can't beat a Miata. If you don't like Miatas and you want more power a 2007 Corvette will cost you around $20,000. To make it a purpose built race car will cost another $25,000. BTW you can buy Spec Miatas for under $10,000 already prepped and ready to race. As far as turbo car, I would leave them for HPDE or auto X. They take a lot of work to keep them running for road racing.

So, sounds like y'all might know the answer to something I've been curious about; how much DOES a mini Cooper eat your lunch in maintenance? I looked into them once, and it looked absurd, but they were a blast to drive.

honestly for regular maintenance....its really not bad (they have really long service intervals)..... but if you start breaking parts it can get a little expensive(but nothing crazy), they are made by BMW so all the oem parts are BMW parts.

i had mine of little over 60K and it was dead nuts reliable
