Sky Diving

little whiny bitches think your bad asses because you trained to jump out of a perfectly good airplane prepared to get surrounded and killed off in 3 days if the conventional army doesn't come get your dumb asses, yeah real fkn heros, you st your sasses there while big green has to come get you. Fuck you mr wanna be tough guy.I know nobody ever told you all this but the real Army, the one with tanks and shit, looks upon you as bait, no different than a goddam deer feeder and you are the corn.:D

perfectly good airplane? ever been on a military aircraft?

and when was it that "big green" ever came to "come get you"? methinks yous been a root-ta-toot-tooting on something strong. where was "the real army" in grenada? panama? when exactly was the last time the conventional army spearheaded anything? you'd have to go back to vietnam for that answer.

truth of it is, the legs of "big green" talk like that of the airborne and the rangers cause they aint got what it takes. so they delude themselves with bullshit like you spewed, which is just another reason legs are so dirty, so NASTY. i've heard this shit forever. "tankers...blah blah blah..." "artillary....king of...blah blah blah.."

when you take it all away....take the MAN and put him on the ground with what he has. your tanker is useless.....without that multi million dollar gun you ride in, you do what? your arty guys? without the giant gun, what are they? equally as useless. and please...dont give me the "then we are infantry" bs....cause i seen how that all works out.

next to an army infantryman, the only other branch i would consider having the ability to talk equally is an infantry marine. and no, i dont buy into the "all marines are infantry" story. that being said, i have mad respect for the marines i know and have met.

and as far as "...fuck you mr. wanna be tough guy..." i guess you want to get personal now? who would have thought that a person expressing an opinion online without singling out anyone specific would have turned a guy's asshole pussy pink? go look in the mirror and address your issues buddy; i'm content with my life and what i've accomplished. if you are THAT deeply offended by an opinion of someone else, then you seriously need to look at that. for your own health. seriously.

You guys got into a pissing match over sky diving?????

Seriously? That's what you took away from that? A paratrooper is to a sky diver like a trained and titled sniper is to Maser with a Daisy air rifle. They're going at it because some of them land in airplanes in broad daylight, and others drop out of them with their body weight in materiel strapped to their asses on a moonless fucking night right into AA fire. Bit of a difference there, Cochise.

probably more just that we aint got nothing better to do. I have little doubt that armyjerry and softcock are both stand up guys....at least i hope they are.

military guys playing row-sham-bow with each other is as old as the military....it's what we do.

my beef, and i probably shouldnt have aired it here, is that IF someone askes me a question about what my experience (and no one here did specifically asked me anything, i CHOSE to enter the conversation-which makes this different from normal situations) and IF i chose to answer them, i am flooded with BS right back about how they understand....cause they went on a tandem jump, or skydive, or some other bullshit. and when i dont buy it, they are offended. it just is NOT the same thing.

ADD to that, in this day and age of posers...military frauds...and guys who may have served but greatly exaggerate the extent of their service. for the most part, i refuse to even talk about it in any level except those that i served with. i think it's really sad that when i meet a self professed veteran these days, that i have to look at everything they say with suspision. and what is more sad, is that 75% of those people, are bullshitting.

at the end of it, i shouldnt have walked in and shit on the floor. no one here was being a dick, right up until i started being a dick. my apologies to all for stinking up a perfectly good thread.

Here let me prove Samuel Clemons right....

Yes there is a difference.

All respect in the world to a guy that static lines at relatively low altitude from a blacked out C130. The balls outweigh the gear.

Fact is though the chute is just a means of transportation to eliminate the potential damage to the plane and deliver a body behind an enemy to create enough confusion/disruption that the fat slow moving guys can move forward.

A paratrooper is a lethal sack of weight falling fast and hard with little control.

A parachutist is a pilot of sorts with the luxury of not having rounds search him out on his trip to the ground.

No one would paratroop for sport. Legally it wouldn't be allowed. If OSHA was involved in our military they would fine the Army into non existence.

Comparing paratrooping to Skydiving would be like taking an AmphibTrac on a family vacation and puking your guts out getting motion sick in the back of the thing for 3000 miles.

Many of the shooting sports developed either from military needs or as a form of training. If we wanted to take our shooting sports to the level of paratrooping well than the guy in the butts should be shooting back at you.

one other thing i'll say, and i am trying to look out for anyone looking at riding a parachute....if the folks you are paying to teach/take you, say the way to deal with an open chute in plane is to throw the person out with the open chute, for GOD"S sake RUN from those fucking fools. definately NOT the people you want teaching you nor are they people you want to be around. they'll get you killed in short fucking order.

Any of you gents Sky Dive----Solo, Not tandam

How long (many jumps) did it take you to get comfortable going solo

What is it costing you per jump?

Do you have your own rig?

Hard landings

When to flair

Packing your shute

-
If your thinking about doing it , I say go for it and do just one jump to check it out . Do an AFF level 1, or just go find a little Cessna DZ and get trained-up for a Static-line . You might like it or you might not .

Also Skydiving is for Both Mil. and Non Mil. . I have meet a shitload of people over the years ages 20 to 80 that have taken up skydiving post Mil. service . There is a reason for this and it pretty simple one . They would agree and I got to say one of the best things about Skydiving is that you can have a shitty day or week and whatever else is pissin you-off and dragging you down, building-up in life . All you got to do is just grab your gear and go do a jump and grab some air, do a quick hop & pop with some Canopy work . it's an automatic attitude changer, you feel great and your mind is clear and cleaned of all the bullshit clutter that you accumulated with living . Make bullshit with a few friends and have a beer, then go home get a good sleep .

Are you saying you 'pencil packed' your Reserve a lot ??? ....LOL . and A Good skill to know .
I think the longest I ever pencil packed my Reserve was 7 or 8 years .
.

now c'mon guys..no one EVER pencil packs a reserve:rolleyes:

As for the original question at hand

I'm around 3000 jumps....quit counting when I hit log entry 2000, D license, BIC, Coach and AFF ratings

I got into the sport via AFF program which generally runs 10 jumps to get you cleared to first solo

$30 to 12500

Aerodyne Diablo190, Icarus Omega 170 a pair of javelins with pd resrves

Hit the ground the same time as the nose of my canopy once while avoiding a student that turned directly toward me at about 100'....that was a bad day at the office

Had 2 malfunctions so far...both on the same day relatively early in my skydiving career....First thing in the morning I had a lineover from the sloppy packjob I threw together the night before so I could get to drinking....second one was the afternoon and it was an AAD misfire...old FXC in my first rig fired my reserve while I had a perfectly good main over my head at 3500'...downplaned an chopped the main and landed under reserve.

Flair before you hit the damn ground!

I started packing rigs around my 5th or 6th jump...used to pack student rigs and sport rigs for extra cash as well

As for the bitch fight over .mil jumps vs. sport jumping...totally different animals....ton's of douchery going on there. There's a reason .mil guys get round parachutes...I'll leave it at that

HMMMMMM

perfectly good airplane? ever been on a military aircraft?

Yes, many, many and yeah they are flyable , maybe no perfect but flyable mostly

Saving the bait, Normandy, Bastogne to name a few, Spearheading the take over of the country named Iraq in a few days. Oh yeah that was the 3rd ID,With Tanks and Bradleys, man I cant believe you are bringing up Grenada

truth of it is, the legs of "big green" talk like that of the airborne and the rangers cause they aint got what it takes. so they delude themselves with bullshit like you spewed, which is just another reason legs are so dirty, so NASTY. i've heard this shit forever. "tankers...blah blah blah..." "artillary....king of...blah blah blah.."

Truth is you are bait, you little fuckers are puny. cant even carry a frikken 4 deuce tube or plate , too goddam skinny, little fuckers, thats why you get stuck lugging a little 60 mm, child's play.

when you take it all away....take the MAN and put him on the ground with what he has. your tanker is useless.....without that multi million dollar gun you ride in, you do what? your arty guys? without the giant gun, what are they? equally as useless. and please...dont give me the "then we are infantry" bs....cause i seen how that all works out.

Actually having been mech and leg, actual leg in the 7th ID , Mortar Plt Sgt and a Vulcan Squad leader earlier in my career I find a lot of what you are saying puffed up bullshit I normally hear from Marines but its all good. I will tell you this, a lot of alleged 82nd bad asses that transferred into the 7th ID (light fighters) got a rude awakening with their new environment and training cycle, they all eventually got up to speed though

next to an army infantryman, the only other branch i would consider having the ability to talk equally is an infantry marine. and no, i dont buy into the "all marines are infantry" story. that being said, i have mad respect for the marines i know and have met.

Meh, they talk too much shit like you

and as far as "...fuck you mr. wanna be tough guy..." i guess you want to get personal now? who would have thought that a person expressing an opinion online without singling out anyone specific would have turned a guy's asshole pussy pink? go look in the mirror and address your issues buddy; i'm content with my life and what i've accomplished. if you are THAT deeply offended by an opinion of someone else, then you seriously need to look at that. for your own health. seriously.

With all due respect, Fuck off and have a good Army day

for you worry warts we are not in a pissing match, just talking

I am glad to see all the advice on the safety aspects of jumping you are sharing along with a few others.

Years ago, there was a "military dude" of very high regard who regaled upon us a story.... of more than happenstance.

I don't do it any justice, but it went something along the lines of many many soldiers were doing a "jump-ex" or something like that. Many planes filled with many-squared cans of whoop-ass were to be traveling through the air this one night.
This one particular "jumpmaster" (not sure if that's the term) whom was designated at the last moment by some pencil-pusher of sorts... did the best he could and was extremely proud of the fact that he was trusted with such a responsibility. He went through his routines as best he understood them, and hoped and prayed that he got it all right and whatnot....

Upon his successful landing on the ground, his being the last of the string he was on... he was whoop'n an' hollerin' about how fantastically awesome not only his jump was, but the fact that everyone else's jump was successful with no injuries or hang-ups. Then said Lefftenant-Commander-General-Admiral approaches this young Jump-Master, and asks specifically how many jumps he has under his belt.

"That was my first..." was his reply.

Said Brass then started a tirade all up that youngster's command line, and started rolling heads and asses.....

[[ I say all this here, in the hopes that ONE of you soldiers knows of/remembers this story, because I don't do it justice by any means. It was quite the tome, when originally given years ago on the Duty Roster. Sing out, and fill in the gaps, if-you-will. ]]

Now, here's an absolutely nutso question, from an oddball to all you experienced jumpers. Have any of ya'll ever had a jumper, or "first-time-jumper" exit the plane with a cane strapped to their back/side/something? I ask, because I've been wanting to bail-out for quite a few decades,,, and I can fall with the best of 'em. Landing will be in interesting moment for sure,,,, but I can't walk worth shit without my cane. So, unless it were to be specifically placed EXACTLY where I'm going to land,,, I need to bring it with me, if/when I go.

Thoughts?

Remember I said it was nutso, right? Still want to hear your thoughts....

Just so you know, armyjerry is more of a doggystyle kinda guy instead of stand up and he likes to be on the bottom, nor does he enjoy softcock. Just say'n. Sorry softcock. ;)

It would have to be a collapsible design Cane - make for short OAL. then have a secure pocket to put it in . or just secure (collapsible Cane ) up-inside your pant leg by your Calf w/ secure to Ankle .
Seen all sort of disabilities over the years people deal with and still jump, Things from prosthetic limbs to being legally blind .

sorry, i can't buy that story. too many checks and balances for that to happen. WAYYYY too many. besides....it's a damn small community and you damn sure know who is who. especially when it comes to jump masters. there are a lot of fucked up things about the army....but the jump masters aint one of them.

i've no doubt you heard that story, but rest assured, it is a story.

They have a couple places here where they do the indoor skydiving thing where you suit up & they have huge building sized blowers that simulate skydiving.
The ride is about 2 minutes or so depending.
It's very popular with both people who want part of the experience without the danger and also with skydivers who want to practice their movement in a controlled environment to do tricks etc.

There is no simulating letting go the rail outside the door on the airplane.

Aint that the truth! The first time you climb out FFFF Float with two fingers on the rail and toe in front edge of the door with nothing but prop blast holding you on the airplane while 10 of your closest friends climb out behind you...that's when you know you're alive!
