Any other SH members out there read any of Hayek's works including "The Road to Serfdom"? He was very prophetic as to the west's march towards socialism and resulting loss of individual freedom. Not an easy read read even for a trained economist as myself but very enlightening once you make your way through it.

Have not read it and I'm not any kind of economist, but some days it sure seems like we are living it. Kind of like the old saw about how to boil a frog.

This^^^. I quit econ class when I read that "All economics is based on scarcity."

I note that in 1945 an abridged version was published in Reader’s Digest “to reach more people”. Ah how the thinking has changed over the past 72 yrs.

The antithesis has been championed of late - Modern Monetary Theory / MMT / or as some like to call it - Magic Money Tree - wherein Central Banks, Fiat, and the unrestrained creation of new fiat injected into the money supply is a good thing.

    De-Dollarization is happening now.......

    TPTB planned this.

I find it interesting that people will widely acknowledge that within their own communities a Good Ol Boy system exists. One that shapes the community - determines where roads will be created, Planning, Zoning, Development manipulation, Redistricting, etc, etc....and further most folks generally agree that “(other) people” don’t make good decisions, and that resources are finite.....and yet they think you’re a whack if you believe that there really are individuals that form a global good ol boy’s club which seeks to manage people, control resources, and manipulate and profit from both.

    Theyll find out soon enough.
I plan to be 'absent' from the schooling.

And as an afterthought, whats wrong with being a serf? You dont have to think much or make many decisions as youve got a lord and master to do that for you. Just follow instructions and wait for the gruel and an occasional whipping when hes drunk or pissed at the old bat.

    Mike_Honcho:

You are not a whack for thinking so and the global cultural elites are promoting collectivism as aptly described by Hayek with the current environmental movement being the latest manifestation of collectivism. Resources are finite but most efficiently allocated through efficient markets. The fatal conceit of the global elites is that they believe they can allocate resources better than the aggregate actions of individuals acting freely. Hayek was heavily criticized by the intellectual elites of the time who favored Keynesian theory because it vested control of the economy with the central planners. I have an undergraduate and masters degrees in economics and was required to take numerous macro economics courses which mostly focused on Keynesian theory and very little mention of the work of the Chicago school for which Hayek and Friedman were professors. I hated those classes and thought it was a bunch of BS. My area of concentration was production and resource economics with heavy emphasis on quantitative analysis at the micro level.

I quit when I found out that they modified nature to describe maths, as opposed to modifying math to describe nature.

That, and greebaggery at it's core just doesn't make sense to me. I get it, I just abhor it.

However, it's been commonly said that democracy devolves into fascism and totalitarianism, not communism.

Communism isn't a bad way of doing things actually, it's just never been done right before. Some asshole declares primacy before everyone benefits. True communism died with the Kronstadt sailors. Could have changed the 20th century.

Dont know why but this seemed like a good place to say....

    Communism denies human nature.

The value of our Republic is that it was established with a complete understanding of human nature.

The rare occasions where Communism has worked it required an extremely homogeneous society with a relatively small population of people that were personally responsible and willing to shame or ostracize those in the community that did not contribute.

Trump said it perfectly yesterday "Socialism in Venezuela worked exactly the way it is designed to".
