Muzzle brake for thin barrel ( 0.63” ) 5/8” x 24

It's threaded for 5/8"-24 already? I can't imagine any gunsmith in their right mind would do that. The barrel wall thickness at the threads would only be 0.0035". I believe 0.675" is considered the bare minimum for 5/8"-24 threads.

What is the caliber?

Thompson Center Compass. Was done at the factory. 6.5 Creedmoor. Cheap hunting rifle.
I still want to put a brake on it.

Spoke to a very helpful guy at JPENTERPRISES.

He said their brake with their jam nut would work.....

I'm not sure what you are trying to say.
5/8" = .625"
If I were installing a muzzle device on that barrel I'd turn the length to be threaded down to .620" diameter before chasing the 5/8-24 threads. Then I'd use a jam nut or a thread locking agent to fix the muzzle device on since there'll be no shoulder to lock against.

My mistake on the math. Hadn't had my second cup of coffee yet. 0.63" is still well under any manufacturer recommended minimum I've ever seen for 5/8"-24. Strange that they wouldn't go with 1/2"-28 or 9/16"-24.

Is the shoulder behind the threads, .63"?! Or are you measuring the actual threads? The major diameter max spec for 5/8-24 threads is .6255" that leaves a shoulder of .00025"... so basically no shoulder at all.

with a 6.5 creed your barrel wall thickness is .16625". I wouldn't be overly concerned about that unless they make a deep relieve cut.

Check out KDF muzzle brakes... http://www.kdfguns.com

Here is one on a 7mm Rem mag. The shoulder diameter of the barrel is 0.648...

Sure isn't much shoulder there. I prefer more shoulder; but then I only use brakes for mounting one of my suppressors. I guess there's more need for a shoulder when mounting a brake for a suppressor. The general rule I've always gone with for 5/8x24 is .725" MINIMUM.

One big concern with threading a thin barrel is the end of the barrel becoming distorted because of the extremely thin wall between the bore/crown and the threads. Not saying it can't be done - it can. Just not something I'd do.
