Choate stocks

I don't shoot F Class, but I have had one of the choate stocks. I had the choate tactical on a savage 10 308. In my opinion, it was decent for the money. The use an aluminum "v" bedding block that extends down the fore end (IIRC), are fairly heavy, and have a large palm swell on the grip. The bipod was attached onto a dovetail rail attachment, which can work loose at times. The barrel channel was wide enough to free float a telephone pole. If I am not mistaken, several people who use this stock also use a kydex adjustable comb. I did not dislike the stock at all, but upgraded to a xlr chassis.

I also have one on my Savage 10 left hand. I agree with most everything posted by JTJACKSON. I didn't find the stock to be too heavy. Overall it's a good stock for the money, and they also sell them with an adjustable cheek rest and length of pull.

I had one years ago when I was just starting out. It was what I could afford at the time and was ok. I found it to be heavy, not overly comfortable and pretty unrefined. That said, it was better than the factory stock and I didn’t know any better. It was also one of the only players in the market for savage rifles at the time. I would personally look to other options now depending on your platform.

What rifle are you shooting?

mine is a mix breed? stevens 200 action, mod 10 bolt, shilen bull barrel in 223 with a VLD chamber..on a bell an Carlson stock..

If I were you id look at the MDT chassis offerings personally, not that Choate is bad but its just kind of blah as others have said. Unrefined and kind of fugly but if the only thing you care about it is accuracy its probably good enough.

I had a Stevens action with a shilen bull barrel in a choate stock when I first got into shooting. I’ve tried a lot of different stuff on the market since then but still remember being very comfortable behind that rifle and shooting well with it. For a budget build I wouldn’t hesitate to go that route again if needed

I moved my Manners T4A from my Ftr onto a tac rifle, and use the Choate on Ftr now. It shoots just as well and the dimensions are virtually the same once you add another butt spacer (or to get the lop you desire). Now I have 3 Choates, which cost about the same as one T4A. Had a custom made stock on the Ftr, and did not like it at all. Also had a chassis on a tac rifle, didn't like it either. So I've tried numerous stocks and I cannot justify spending more. Now I have 3 Choates, which cost about the same as one T4A.
