I am going to begin shooting some PRS style matches soon, but I had a few questions. I have read the PRS website on rules and have a fairly clear understanding of it, but am still a little confused.

1) I am from southern Illinois, so I will try and start by shooting club matches in the midwest region. Would it be more beneficial to me to go ahead and purchase a PRS membership or just shoot some club matches as Non-PRS to gauge my interest into the sport and not be out the membership fee in case I realize I do not enjoy the matches or realize I can not compete to the level I wish to be competitive?

2) Budget is not really an issue, but I will be buying a production rifle under 2k for now. I have intentions to top it with a gen 2 razor. Would it be more beneficial on my part to stay under 2k in the scope category as well therefore allowing me to run in the production class during matches or continue with the purchase of the gen 2 razor knocking me out of production class?

I have read the PRS production class needs to die Thread and understand people's points in the thread. I believe the production class should be based on skill level/experience into the series just as new and beginning shooters like myself instead of an equipment cap.

I appreciate any advice/recommendations/etc. Thanks in advance and please bear with me as I am new to this forum as well as the PRS series.

Shooting some club matches first is going to leave more money in your wallet for ammo and practice. I don’t have a PRS membership as I don’t plan on shooting any sanctioned PRS matches, yet I can still shoot them if I wanted to.

Lots of the top shooters are using a Gen II Razor and they can be head for less than $2k in the PX here. However, the Bushnell Elite Tactical scopes can be had for much less and are a pretty good value. I really like my XRS, although the ERS would work just fine and leave me more coin for ammo.

You can build a profile on the PRS website for the club series for free. You'll have a shooter page, it will track your matches and your overall standing in the club . You can go qualify the regional club finale and even go to the national PRS finale if you are one of the top 3 shooters in the club series for the year. You'll probably find that the level of competition is good and includes some of the national level shooters in your area who want to pick up some one day matches for practice.

Getting the PRS membership is for when you intend to shoot multiple national level PRS matches and want to see where your season score ranks you against the best of the best.

I'd vote for getting the Gen II razor, great scope. You can check into whether your club series tracks a production division or not if you want to shoot production. Last year the clubs didn't track production division, don't know if that's changing for the 2018 season.

Thank you both. Both the answers I was looking for. I was unaware the prs club membership was free. I think I’ll just do that for now.

And given the production classes basically being nonexistent I’ll just go with a gen 2 razor instead of gen 1 and be happy with my purchase instead of settling to meet a certain criteria.

go with the gen 2 razor ,and get a feel at your local match ull get a good standard ie. actions cassis/stocks calibers triggers and what gun smiths work with those guys. so go with an open mind and absorb what u believe is worth space in your brain box.

good luck bud

Which thread are you referring to? I've searched for it but can't find it and would like to read it since I've considered shooting production class
