Rifle Scopes Plumb bobs no more!

Cool. I just lay a 6ft Johnson level against a tree and do it that way, but hell yeh if you got a transit!
EeeeK! Your brooms, weeder, and rake are crooked! 
Use them extensively as a commercial construction PM. Hard to argue your crooked shit is level with a laser.
Had to hand it back over to a previous employer but used it before. Have another but it doesn’t provide a grid so it’s for both. More importantly for the scope of course. $129 at Home Depot.

Had this idea myself, just haven't got around to trying it.
While were on the subject, I use the flashlight through the objective method myself. I noticed the other night that the Spuhr leveling wedge didn't quite get it done for me on a S&B I mounted. I put it up for the night, and am going to get it back out of the safe tonight and finish the job. I have a question though. Is it ok to use the level in the Spuhr mount as a reference point for the receiver being level, or should I get a small level and place it on the receiver itself when finish up this evening?
I've always used rings in the past, so the level in the Spuhr is whats throwing me off in trying to think through of the best way of doing this.

I like a 3' carpenters level, use it to verify the Spuhr level, set a small level on top of 3' level ..... never ends.
Never found a Spuhr level to not agree with the carpenters level.

Was a super on a commercial job at the time and the boss was throwing me an ass chewing for putting a laser on a company card. I got the laser to make sure the guys placing a truss system was dead bang because it was getting a monument in front of it that would have stood out like a sore thumb if wrong( finished aluminum vertical panels). After letting the boss get it out of his system i asked him if we had a level that was 50’ tall or a plumb bob that wasn’t effected by the wind? No. Is it worth $100 to be dead bang when your talking to the owner about change orders? Didn’t answer that one but by the end of the following week every super had one, I still speak to the project owner and it’s still worth $100 to be right.?

I just ordered those, too. Stupid simple idea! My process has involved a surface plate and Tubb Bubblevel.
I think I've got one of those laser levels and will use that to verify my setup. Fantastic simple idea if you've got one.
Hate to burst your bubble guys. But you've got to level off of your elevation housing. If you level off your reticle and it has some cant in it (manufacturers have a acceptable range for reticle straightness) you will be inducing error as you dial up for elevation as it dials in line with the housing, not the reticle itself. Checking the reticle is only a good method after youve leveled off of your housing to make sure your reticle isnt canted from the factory to a point outside what is acceptable.
Not bursting my bubble, but two different problems...
Level reticle this way then shoot a tracking test. If it doesn’t match the scope is going back to whoever made it.
You put your reference line up for tracking test (another thing the laser level works well for btw, then hold reticle level with the line and shoot tracking test) and see how far the reticle differs from the the turret tracking
The machining fit between various turret assemblies can have some misleading machine tolerances in them as well.... If you want To use the scope, then use the bottom of the scope not the turret cap.
There are 100 ways to approach a problem and they each have their benefit and downfall, doing them in this order gives me a method to measure error of each part of the equation

This is what I do...actually I cart a heavy vise to the range, place the level in it and align its position until it is perfectly vertical. I then position myself behind the rifle and adjust the reticle until it is aligned with the level's edge. I then adjust the level on the scope body to be level when the crosshairs are aligned.
Works for me...there are multiple ways to accomplish the same thing
