I waited in line for tickets at the garden for that show...after 2 hours the line moved about 10 feet and I left.
You did it wrong. I had a friend in Cleveland go to Ticketmaster there, where there was no line. We ended up near the top of MSG, but it was awesome.
John Bonham was the shit! He used to play the drums so hard that lots of times he broke the drum sticks and had to beat the drums with his hands instead and had to deal with blood blisters afterwards. Best drummer ever! Jimmy Page was amazing on the guitar too. Imagine how cool it would have been with Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix guitaring together!
I was at that concert as an 18 year old. Clearly remember Dazed and Confused and how they had the sound system set up to circle around the crowd. Saw several good concerts there including the Ziggy Stardust tour by David Bowie. Wasn't really a fan but was given some tickets. Showed up in boots, jeans and flannel shirt and based by the looks from most of the other folks in attendance I was the weird one since they were all decked out glitter and platform shoes. Turned out to be an excellent concert.
Part of Led Zeppelin's unique sound is based on some pretty complex music that's hard to pull off. In Kashmir, Bonham is maintaining a 4/4 beat while the strings are playing in 3/4, so the beats only match up once every 12 beats. Fool in the Rain is even more complex. Bonham is maintaining 2 separate rhythms in 4/4 while everyone else is in 12/8. Only an exceptional drummer and a very tight band can make this happen.

I ended up going to the festival at Watkins Glen. Only had to deal with 600,000 people. Never saw the stage. Left after 3 songs.
I used to ask all the time why people rant about bonham. Then I saw this video back around february and was astounded at the shit he could do, when it was broken down. This video is excellent. Not only that, but imagine being able to do all that shit on the drums whilst being absolutely demolished or hung over as shit?
On another note, I never realized how much of a smack head Jimmy Page was until I read comments under some of their videos

John Bonham playing before an audience 3 months before his death. He is out of rhythm for most of the first three much abbreviated songs. He gets through the third song and then passes out. Really sounds bad. Plant keeps making polite excuses and says they will be right back but they never do. On the day of his death they pick him up for rehearsal. They are going back to North America to tour after a three year layoff. Bonham is angry yells at Plant, “I’ve had with playing drums. Everybody plays better than me”. And with that he rips the sun visor off the car and throws it out the window. 12 hours of rehearsal and 40 shots of vodka later he drowns in his own vomit. So much for the best drummer in Rock. Anyway, you should listen to this. Sounds like a Led Zeppelin cover band playing at some small county fair. If it wasn’t so tragic it would be funny.
Think they stayed with Atlantic from beginning till end . I remember hearing in an interview once that when they signed with Atlantic, and pretty sure it true .
There was a contract clause that stated that Zeppelin had full control of all /everything involved with anything in studio . And it was ' ALL ' that also included all at Atlantic administration . Atlantic could not even set foot in there own studio that Zep. was utilizing, unless written permission was submitted in advance and approved by Zeppelin .

here is the way I remember it.
one morning in Signal Hill CA my roomate Armond Beausoliel Jr. asked me to smoke some hash and go to the stereo store in Ceritos Mall, Cerritos CA.
I had 2500 dollars and wanted to buy an Atari 1200 XL but my roomate was set on adding to his sound system a 50 inch projection TV. Having gotten stoned to the bone I was standing in front of the TVs lined up along the back wall of the store watching a rock video catching patterns (traces) of all the Tvs moving in synch. Bo man saw me spacing out and we started a conversation that went like this... hey Bo we should get a bunch of tvs and hook em up...hey boy how about one BIG tv...look at those guys... look at them girls...yeah beatin on the drums like some chimpanzees... I should have learned to play the guitar...I should have learned to play the drums...look at those faggots... those faggots are millionares...yeah I should have stayed with the guitar...maybe get a blister, on your finger..(Bo raises his pinky)what are they playing? (audio was off), Hawiaan noises..(in reference to my girfriends recent trip to Hawaii), look at those guys... Money for nothing...and the chicks are free..just think of it on a Big TV screen...No, I'm gettin' the computer...I WANT MY MTV!!! A salesman walked up and asked us what we were talking about as Mark Knopfler had asked the clerk at the register for a pen and paper (pencil furnished) and frantically scribbled our conversation and walked out. Bo ran out after him when I turned around and saw several people staring at me and I freaked (paranoya set in) I quickly walked out the store to see Bo screeming at a black limo driving away saying Mark! Mark! I said, who was that? He said Mark Knopfler. Isn't that your buddy from high school? That was Mark Knopfler don't you know who Mark Knopfler is? How rude, your buddy didn't even stop. We went home. I can tell you exactly who, when where and how in more detail. When they released the first digitally mastered CD, Bo played it for me and waited for my reaction. WHo is this? I like thier song Sultans of Swing. MTV sounds familiar. Is your buddy in this band? And if anyone tels you different even MK its because he probably is afraid of royalties. Mark if you read this I'm not about any money or rights. A back stage pass would be fine for one concert. It was your work, interpretation, score, song. 10 years later I told my sister and a few people heard you and Eric Clapton were coming from Alpine Valley concert (WI) to Biddy Mulligans at Loyola in Chicago where I moved back home. You guys wouldn't get out of the limo becasue of security and left. I never told anyone but my sister, Bill Colton, and the gang in New Orleans years later. My sister just saw this post and it has forced me to come clean. I know no one will ever believe it. I don;t care becasue Bo and I are the ones who realy know except maybe the salesman at the Store that sold everything. You got your refrigerators, microwave ovens...I was imitating a carny becasue Bo was trying to sell me on the TV. And Bo if your out there drop me a line. Its been 25 years. We had some good times.

Great stuff. Jimmy Page may have been a plagiarizing son of a bitch but he and John Paul Jones knew a ton about arranging for a 3 piece band. I saw the 4th album tour in St. Louis and they kicked it in the ass.

Since our resident Granddaughter, who is a pretty good musician (guitar, bass, brass, percussion) has no less than eight guitars, bass, etc. (including my own bought new 1964 Goya 12-string...), I thought I'd throw a little of the distaff side in for balance...
Her college ed was music and audio recording, mixing, editing, and producing...
Her dogs are named Lita and Jett.
Shooting ain't her main thing, mind you...
