My JP Valkyrie Shipped!

I really wanted the JP barrel because I have a thermal dissappator for it already and like the lighter weight. But if people are getting fantastic results with craddock and CLE for the same price it's hard to pass up.

So do I go for accuracy and ability to shoot factory ammo? Or weight savings? I'm leaning towards the former.

Not to impugn other manufacturers, but JP was out in front on this and seems to have done their homework. It seems that they have looked at variables that would be impactful that just barrel manufacture. That they say it is an inconsistent problem means to me that unless someone else has looked at performance across a number barrels, I don’t know if you can say that they are kosher.

So federal comes out with a round tailored for a specific application and then their versions don’t perform? Ugh.

I read the linked JP document and I don’t see really that much about the 224V? I was expecting a lot of data on the issues. Not so much.

Anyone other barrel makers like WOA having trouble? JP is not what its cracked up too be IMHO.

I know what barrel Im waiting for and based on current pricing it'll be $450 with undeniable quality.

Did anyone else pull their barrels and stop production months ago before any other manufacturer?

Has any other barrel manufacturer look at as many variables as JP has?

It was only recently that the reamer issue was made public and manufacturers pulled their barrels and uppers back, months after JP acted.

At this point, knowing what we do, I can't rationally see buying anything but a JP barrel- and I'll only do that after we are sure they broke the code. From JPs message, it is an inconsistency- and maybe you get a good barrel from someone else, and maybe you don't. Until I hear from another manufacturer that they have done the work to figure it out, it looks like a crap shoot.

Maybe when people get the right reamer the barrels will get right- but I still wonder if they'll be everything that they could be.

A nice JP 224V arrived at my house today. When I talked to them on the phone a couple of months ago, they explained the 90g Federal issue. They were seeing 1 moa or a bit better with it, but that wasn't good enough, given what other loads and their rifles are capable of. Pretty straight of them, and Federal is involved with JP's testing of this. Good on both companies to try to address it as they have. Everyone knows not all loads shoot well through all rifles. Unfortunately, I have a barrel life's worth of 90 grainers sitting here waiting to be shot. I guess we'll find out if they are moa or what this weekend.

My critique about JP was more about barrel price and the fact they don't make their own barrels. Its a premium mark up fr the JP name ... Based on allot of web feedback(of course taken with a grain of salt they are sticking with the 7 twist rate rather then a 6.5.

I'll be waiting just because JP did what they did doesn't mean the choices made are ideal.

What reamer issue do you speak of ... wonder if its the reason for my buddies crap case life.

My last in depth experience with JP was back in the early 2000's when they were making the original VTAC forends. I was not impressed.

This current JP is one of the highest quality AR's I've ever seen. Very impressive build quality. I do recommend though, that if you buy one, get the whole gun and not just the upper. Much better way to go.

You are crazy JP is the Best in the AR Business hands down, I have 3 JP Builds and they are bar none the best rifle I have ever shot or seen. Maybe you should do some research before you make comments like that.

I'd qualify that by saying best gamer gun out there. That would be highly defendable bordering un incontestable. JP has a nice balance of engineering trickery and just common sense modifications. An HK piston gun is hard to ignore, especially for duty and suppressed work.

HK doesnt come close to accuracy of a JP, sold my HKs MR762 as it couldnt shoot 1 moa, my OBR shoots .3, my JP shoots tighter than that.

I'd like to see some 5 shot groups. (5) 5 shot groups would be better. Comments like that give new people and others unrealstic expectations.

Now sure what is unrealistic ... every OBR i have seen for sale comes with a test target, reloading brings them in closer - nothing to gain in exaggerating for a company (Larue) that generally is a dick to deal with, but its fact. The MR762 shot like crap realtively.

3 shot groups are pointless. (1) 3 shot group really means nothing at all. By that standard my DT/AI/GAPs are all sub .1" rifles.

Well my JP barrel finally shipped. Ordered in December. I was offered one of the first run, but opted to wait while JP did more testing.

The plan is to run mostly factory Hornady 88s and handloaded 80 grain rounds.

One positive note was that the price went down $100 since I ordered and that was reflected in my bill.
