Leica HD-B 3000

We started shipping these about 2-3 weeks ago and that was the 1st delivery from Leica and there weren't many in that first shipment. I think there's maybe 20 units out there in the public hands at the moment.

Have you personally had these out in the field for a real evaluation? I'm interested but I don't want to hear the company line on performance, I want to hear real world experiances on steel out to 2,000 yards?
I got a chance to compare them to Vectronix 25C.Vectronix 25C is definitely better but Leica was holding sholder to sholder to about 2500 yards. Furthest I could range with HD-B was 3094 yards at a tree line. On a still they were good to 2000 yard . Sometimes it took me couple presses of button to get a range but it was always within few yards compared to Vectronix. Got a range on a whitetail doe at 2094 yards repeatedly and Vectronix was reading 2092 yards on the same doe. All ranging was done on sunny day around 12 o’clock. Also ballistic solutions is dead on to 1000 yards verified with kestrel 5700 and live fire.
I have no personal experience yest as we have been getting small deliveries of these and the new 2700-R but have not even opened one as they sell pretty much as quickly as they come in.

My opinion is that you will not find better glass on binos than Leica HD-B. Can’t tell you how they compare to Swarovski because I didn’t have them side by side. What I can tell you that HD-B have excellent resolution , contrast and clarity. When you glassing with them animals really stand out in their surrounding, at least for me . I’m guessing it’s because of Leicas resolution but it’s really worth of checking them out. Hopefully this helps.

What is the 2700-R? A new rangefinder? I haven't heard anything about it..... been waiting on a 2700B update.... what are the improvements? I can find info on a 2400 R.... but not a 2700....

I been carrying Leica bino's, Terrapin's and a Kestrel. I too looking to eliminate some gear. I'm also reading that the ballistic function with the new Leicas are matching up with shooters Kestrels. I know I wont be able to leave the Kestrel at home, but possibly if conditions allow, maybe I wont have to use it.
No worries, you are welcome. I didn’t compare them with Swarovski. Compared them with Zeiss Victory and Vortex HD and to my eyes Leica just seemed to have better resolution and contrast.
They are very nice pair of binos for the money. A pair of Leica's or Sworo's that cost 2x the money are better but for me, the $1000 Trinovid's are good enouph.
At a certain point in binoculars there's a point of diminishing return for the price difference. There's a very obvious difference between a $100 and $200 binocular. There's a fairly obvious difference between a $300 and $500 binocular. There's a difference between a $500 and $800 binocular. There may be a difference between a $1000 and $2000 binocular, however, not everyone's eyes are good enough to see it and those that can see it may feel that slight difference is not worth the cost difference
A friend of mine just finished up his NM antelope hunt with the new Leica 3000's. Conditions were less than ideal. Near 100 degrees and 20mph winds so air was a bit dirty. He was however able to range antelope to 2100 yards and hard targets to 3200 yards. Glass was reported to be phenomenal.
We just received a nice delivery of these Leica Geovid 10x42 HD-B 3000 Rangefinder Binoculars if anyone is looking.
Very different products and form factors. One is a 8x28 mono and the other is 8 or 10x42. Terrapin X will push info to a kestrel and Leica are a all in one solution. Which one is better is dependent on your intended use and workflow
Not many reviews on the 3000s and even less comparisons. The only one I know of put the 3000s ahead of the terrapin X...

The Leica Geovid 10x42 HD-B 3000 Rangefinder Binoculars just started shipping, in small quantities, about a month ago so there are not too many units out in folks hands yet
Range on goats with the Leica Geovid 10x42 HD-B 3000's were confirmed with use of PLRF-15's. I also told the Leica's outperformed the Terrapin X ranging antelope and of course in glass quality. Like stated above, the two products are quite different.
I plan on my Geovid's to be my primary ranging tool on hunts but I imagine my old Terrapins will be in my pack as well.

Yes, I have noticed that as well. Also my laser beam is in top half of the circle so if I want to measure something really small at a distance I’m making sure to precisely align top half of circle with target and then it works every time.
Last weekend I had a chance to compare Vectronix X with Leica HD-B 3000 and they were the same to the furthest target that we have at a 1 mile. It was reading same yardage on the 100% IPSC and 66% IPSC steel targets.
I agree, the reticle is too large - regardless of beam divergence. I ranged antelope all day yesterday with the T-X and the HD-B 3000. The 2 I shot were ranged with Vectronix.
Love the glass in the 3000, but I was able to range the goats further and much more consistently with the T-X. Like the terrapin it seems as if the beam is pretty much centered in the Leica, but the large reticle is challenging for me.
It reminds me of the Swarovski Laser Guide. That thing had great glass and ranged well -but you were hard pressed to distinguish between target and surrounding competing environment because of the basketball size reticle in the Swaro.
I really wished they would have replicated the 2700B reticle in the HD-B.
I will still use them for general hunting purposes - especially when you need a quick moderate range on a critter, but I will always have my Terrapin X along.

I compared the Leica HD-B to the new HD-B 3000 and verified the yardage numbers with my PLRF25C. I was shooting telephone poles out to 1000ish years. Yes, I ranged farther to +2000, but it was to larger objects or hillsides. Weather was partly cloudy, clear. I needed another bino set so bought the HD-B 3000 for the newer round reticle as opposed to the square one on the HD-B. Both performed similar and I would say the 3000 beat out the HD-B in ability to find the target. As with these larger reticles, I had to find the exact sweet spot within the reticle. On the 3000, it was just inside the round quadrant at 2:30, if that makes sense. I don’t know why then can’t center these things up. I suppose the glass was a bit clearer in the 3000, totally subjective observation. Anyway, love the binos and wish they had that pinpoint reticle as the PLRF25C, but there is that price delta : )

Made it out to confirm zero on my hunting 6 creed this morning then went to a spot I got 12'' steel at 500 and 700 yards. I had no trouble ranging the 500 yard target with the Leicas resting on a rear bag. Wind got up and didnt take the time to test the reticle at 700 on 12'' steel.
Unless it be a pig, I don't take shots at game past 600 yards so reticle in the Leicas looks like it will work for me on just about any shot I will be taking this season. But I do wish the aiming reticle was smaller.

The reticle is smaller on the 3000. I’d say it fits inside the square reticle of the 2700.
Oh Boy, My mistake. I was comparing my earlier Leicas HD-Bs to my HD-3000 Leicas. Earlier post corrected.
