Hello,

I am looking into purchasing a Tikka T3X Lite for a hunting rifle. What are some good bases to purchase for the rifle? preferably one piece

Also will the original T3 mounts work or are there different mounting holes on the T3X?

Thanks,
Blake

We make a single piece, 6061 aluminum base for the Tikka T3's and T3x's :) I've been running the same base on my Tikka T3 action for the last 4 years and not once has it loosened or shifted, even when mounted with a heavy scope and rings!

The screw spacing is the same between the T3 and T3x and we use a press in dowel to act as a "recoil lug' on the underside of that rail. https://mdttac.ca/collections/scope...scope-base-picatinny-rail?variant=44117910223

Looks like a quality rail to me and priced well. I’m not sure if I fully understand what you mean when you said you use a dowel to act as a recoil lug. ?

Mountain Tactical and Area 419 both make nice optic rails for Tikkas also.

Factory Sako Optilock bases and rings (not the ones that come in the box with the rifle) are nice too if you don’t necessarily want a rail.

There is a hole on the top of your action that the dowel will sit into with our rails. When installed, you push forward against the dowel and it then acts as a recoil lug.

I got one from Murphy Precision. I haven't mounted yet because the rifle is at the gunsmith for a barrel, but the machining is perfect and it has a steel recoil lug. Murphy makes these in Ti or stainless, IMO either is better than Aluminum.

As you said preferably “one piece” I’d draw your attention to the integrated base and ring mounts. Richard Near manufactures a sublime Alpha Hunter that uses the top receiver screw holes. Spuhr makes Sako TRG / Tikka compatible mounts that utilise the “dovetail” slot.

So you buy a light weight hunting rifle that comes with a dovetail for directly mounting scope rings and you want to add unnecessary weight and height to your scope mount.

I don't get it.

Any set of scope rings made to match the Sako Optilock dovetail will fit a Tikka. Sako (Beretta USA), Warne, and Burris all make Optilock rings. I think Leupold does too.

Do that instead.

BTW, I had a Sako 75 300 Win Mag with Burris Fullfield in Optilock rings and never had an issue with ring or scope slipping. Dovetail mounts are solid.

Just to revive this thread... I have a T3x varmint. All the picatinny rails online were made/designed specifically for the T3 years ago. The new T3x has a larger ejection port... does that mean the T3 rails that have a noticed out area to match the size/shape of the T3 ejection port won't properly fit on the redesigned T3x ejection port? I understand that they fit... but what about the ejection port fit? Thx!

You're right that the T3x has a larger ejection port than the older T3, however, the top of the action and where it interfaces with the scope base is flat and continuous unlike an R700 or Savage. What this means is that there is no part of the scope base that is affected by the size of the ejection port (speaking for the design of our scope base, not necessarily the design of others), and the same base would fit a T3, T3x and any future actions they make with the same action/flat top interface.

Best? This one, for sure! ^

I have a couple MT rails, a nightforce and an EGW all 20moa. They all work equally well, but I do prefer the ones with the steel dowel in the rail to align the receiver. The nightforce rail does not have this.
