Rifle Scopes New developments at PA

Just saw this and thought about posting a thread too. I emailed to see when these would be for sale. Until I see a price, which I'm confident will be very competitive, I'll save any judgment. The quality should be there though. I've been a big fan of PA for awhile now. I like what they are doing.

Also, looks like they brought in a new CEO. Not sure if Dimitri stepped down or ever was CEO. I ASSume he wanted someone able to take his. business to the next level.

I wish they would come out with a decent christmas tree reticle instead of all these call of duty video game chevron bdc reticles.

You don't like either of these?

Nope, its by far their best attempt but its just a horus knock off imo. Way cluttered etc for my tastes.

(athena, the mil version of the hera, like your through the scope pic)

The apollo would be alright in the not being quite as cluttered except for they made it a bdc instead of some nice simple evenly spaced dots. And without the void around the center. Though the void looks like it may not actually be that big but I cant really tell. But when their instructions say that for 200 yards you hold between the 2nd and 3rd dot down... thats just just doesnt scream precision to me.

But... different strokes for different folks. They obviously seem to have a good grasp on what their market likes, ARs with video game reticles that can be had in different shapes. I wont deny that they look cool and fun. I can see how a new shooter could be encouraged to get off the couch and go out to the range. I just think they would eventually be swapping it out once they realize that their 140 bergers dont line up with the dots made for a 120 interlock and vice versa.

I know athlon is probably made in the same factory on the same line but they seem to have avoided the BDC bug. I think thats the main reason they grew so popular so fast. I know its why I like them over the primary arms, swfa, nikons of the world.

$1500 for the platinum line. Not far off the price of proven performers. At $1000 I still don't think I'd bite.
In all fairness, I felt the same about the Razors when they came out only $500 less than nightforce.

I would really like to see the new GL optics too. As Spife said though I’m not to keen on the reticles. Way too busy. Trying to figure that thing out and make a shot using your reticle for your elevation and a wind hold would be almost impossible to do on the clock quickly.

Kinda a lofty claim of no CA in a Philippine made optic.

Kind of a BS claim you mean.

I'm sure these are ok, but I'll never have an easy time buying a PA variable power rifle scope. I've gotten a few of the red dots for friends who didn't want to spend any money on an aiming device and refused to use irons, and I have their ACOG which is a fun reticle for that optic but... man, I just don't think I could purchase a 1500+ optic from them when the market from proven companies is so hot right now.

If most companies are simply providing specs to the same manufacturers and then placing orders, it stands to reason almost any company could have great optics.

Athlon, Vortex, SWFA and Bushnell being good examples. PA could end up having some great stuff, it’s the name that most will want to poo poo.

Reticles are a personal choice. I agree most of their horse shoe stuff is not something a precision shooter would choose, but in some uses they would be good once the shooter learned how to use them.

Perhaps they will have some good mil based reticles, time will tell.

The ACSS reticles (what I assume some are calling video game gimmicks) work pretty well in the application they are meant for, which isn't precision long range shooting.

[sarcasm]Someone should tell Trijicon that PA is putting clown reticles on their scopes[/sarcasm].

I shot a PA ACSS reticle for the PRS gas gun series on a 5.56. It worked very well. The BDC lined up out to 800 (as far as I needed it to) with my usual generic 75 bthp load. I think they are great for what they are. I wouldn't choose it on my precision rifle though.

I dont think anyone is denying that BDC reticles and specifically the ACSS, are good at what they do and have an area of use. As I said, I have their ACOG with the ACSS and it's useful and fun.

Why on earth they would put such a thing in a high mag range FFP optic with dialing turrets is the issue. As well as who the hell wants to use a friggin CHEVRON center reticle for the same scope. UGH.

I hope and have sent a message to PA that a standard MilHash reticle or usable Mil based tree is needed. They seem to be catering to field expedient reticles meant for fast, if not super precise, target engagement.

I own a FFP 4-14 PA scope, for 225 or so bucks it is wonderful. It has tracked 100% and while the resolution is not super it is very usable. Its downfall is MilDots instead of hash marks which make it less usable on my Kidd it resides on....which is why I am looking at a Midas Tac for it. My recent large AR has sucked all my play money until spring when my busy season begins.
