Building my first custom rifle. Left handed Impact Precision action heading to Stuteville’s for some barrel work. Really excited. Wish I had more experience with all the new equipment out there, should be fun piecing this thing together. I’m just an occasional single day match shooter, mostly a plinker, and occasional hunter. Shot the barrel out of my first precision rifle which was an RPR and got the reloading bug too.

So the question is was there anything really great at SHOT that I should wait for before completing the build. I’m in no real hurry and this will be a dual purpose gun for some weekend matches, deer/predator/varmint hunting and a lot of plinking at distance. Going to do a couple heavy barrels and a ultralight weight short fluted barrel to switch out when hunting. Planning on sticking with 6.5CM despite everybody chasing the 6mm stuff. I’ve got the reloading for that pretty consistent and like the factory ammo along with the little extra ability to see my hits further out as my eyes and ears start to weaken in the late 40s ?. Seems to be a pretty solid hunting cartridge too.

You may want to consider going with an AI. I did a high end 700 Rem build and by the time i got done I could have gotten a AI-AT for less then $500 more dollars. I not saying don't do a build but from what you said about changing barrels the AI is the way to go. I have .243,6cm ,6.5cm and .308 barrels for my AI-AT and it takes me less then a minute to change barrels and the return to zero is great.
Like you said don't be in a hurry and do a lot of research
Good luck!!

He already has an impact action getting barreled.

No, I can’t think of anything you have to have for your build from shot. What are your stock plans?
