Has anyone necked the 6.5 PRC up to 7mm? I want to build a 7mm short action magnum. I was looking at a 7SAUM, but I can't find brass anywhere. I figure with Hornady backing the PRC so hard that it should be around for awhile, and hopefully other brass options besides Hornady come available.

The cartridge dimensions appear pretty similar. Just curious if anyone has done it yet and what your results are. Do you like it? Wish you would have done something else?

Don’t hold your breath on the Sherman. If you think SAUM is hard to find then forget about the Sherman.

ADG, Bertram, and Hornady are all making 6.5/7 SAUM at this point. That would be the way I would lean. Necking up a PRC is also an interesting idea, and should have plenty of components available in the near future. Only issue might be a reamer but Manson or whoever should be able to make one for you.

Other option would always just be to go 6.5 and shoot the heavies. They will border on 7mm performance if not beat it in some aspects. But at that point GAP 4S is your only option as it has a short enough FB without spacing you out of short actions.

I may drop down to a 6.5 of some sort just for the ease of it. But I really want a 7mm, no reason other than I just want it. So we shall see. How is the ADG and Bertram brass? Does anyone have a preference of one over the other? I have never used either.

Edit: ADG and Bertram are both on back order for 7SAUM on their websites. If I go the 7SAUM route, I'll prob just put up a WTB in the PX and try to buy a lifetime supply of it. Will be for a hunting gun, so isn't gonna see a high volume of fire.

Anyone have any good reloading data for the 6.5 PRC? I'm in the process of putting one together and am finding information to be scarce. I've got 143 gr ELD-X and 147 gr ELD-M bullets for my .260 Rem so figure I'll start there. Also have plenty of H4350 but recognize there's likely a better choice. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Why not go with 7-300PRC?

Note not my photo, took it from a friends FB post.

Want a short action. I have a 28 Nosler in a long action.

Makes sense. I'd say then try the 7-6.5 PRC. Shouldn't be hard to find a smith with a 6.5 PRC reamer and a a 7mm neck/throttling reamer to try the caliber without having to pay to get a custom reamer. Finding 6.5 PRC hornady brass should be way easier than the saum or SS brass.

6.5 PRC brass is kinda thick at the base of the neck, and I believe it continues to thicken Into the shoulder. I only mention it because when you neck it up, it will get thicker still, which may require some neck turning or inside neck reaming. Easy enough to test though if you have a 7mm mandrel and some brass.

I’m pleasantly surprised with my batch of PRC brass. It’s at 6 firings with 147’s @ 2975. Primer pockets are tight as can be.

7sherman short is a far superior round than the 7saum or 7wsm they already have brass out for it and waiting for next batch to be in sometime around May from my understanding. Good things are worth the wait.
