1. validate the idea to them - that awesome /excellent point etc
2. repeat their idea back to them even crazier as their idea...

sometime when they hear their idea, repeated in a more extreme way, they go pale as it then sounds dumb to them.


I was thinking about Title 9 and how many peoples daughters get scholarships under Title 9 - same money for boys and girls.

Now when someone bring up Men/Women/ whatever - if they support it... I will say its awesome. and then make up my fake news- I agree with your idea that colleges should award scholarships based solely upon athletic talent and the fastest man should get track scholarships and the fastest women should get the women's scholarships. The WNBA should be better this year as they are now 100% supporting a persons right to self identify!

Do any of you have anything - tips - for talking socially with people who are illogical?

My advice is this: It doesn't always work. More and more this approach won't work, because a lot of these people are pure sociopaths.
Years ago...before all of them were rabid, I baited one I worked with. Here is the conversation:
G: "This is bullshit them requiring us to come to work in the snow. If they call a snow day, we still don't get off."
APC:"I hear ya, we should get paid holiday pay for those days or have the option to take vacation."
G:"Even better, they should have an on call list just for snow days. It's too dangerous out there, and I shouldn't have to risk my life to come in here."
APC:

"Um...yeah....I think they should hire another operator, who just covers vacation, sick, snow days etc."
G: "That's what I'm saying! That's a great idea!"
APC:"[fuck me running...what the fuck have I gotten into here] Um...but then again...it's gonna be dangerous for him to drive in too..."
G: "Yeah but you make it mandatory for him to own a 4x4. Besides, I don't give a fuck, this new guy is getting paid to come in in the snow!"
