I am two years from retirement looking for a retirement community in either Florida or Arizona that would allow me to shoot regularly... Florida is a stretch... there’s one range down by Tampa and then a couple of private A+ ranges up towards the pan handle but really no suitable options… Arizona has one range by Tucson which would work, but there are a number of ranges north of Phoenix that look appealing… For retired shooters in any of these two states care to share your thoughts or opinions ... thanks!

Im thinking the same, fuck a bunch of sonw and ice. Connect with Greg Langelius a member here. I think hes more in the Tucson area but he could likely give you some advice. Also try the member meetup column. If I remember correctly, didnt Az. just pass a no ccw necessary?

Az (Saddlebrooke) is where we’re looking - local range 90 minutes and with the elevation “a wee bit” cooler.

I was supposed to see with the number of snowbirds no PRS ranges in the Ocala area... lots of land, right mix of politics - all pistol. ☹️

My brother is in Naples... we are looking at Ocala - cycling is the key hoby... southern Fl drivers & volume of trafffic = short retirement. 1000m ranges are few and far between.

What ever you do,research your HOA if you go that route, some can be pretty horrendous.
I winter in Fort Myers and there's a nice range 45 minutes norh of me, but the waiting list for membership can take a year or so.

I shoot at bsf pretty regular. They have a 300 open to the public and 850 you have to qualify for. But generally aint nk yahoos on that range. There is a too not bench shooter that shoots there pretty regular. They are open wed and fri-sunday. Their big thing is sporting clays so a couple of times during the year they shut down the long range for that ( state comp and what not ) they have a calendar in their site to keep up with all that. Pretty nice range

Listen if your a conservative Republican move to Arizona, if not don't come here and fuck up our great lifestyle. I live in Chandler and there are nice 55 and older comm. here. I can drive 30 min. and shoot in the desert all I want. There is also a range in Casa Grande that you can shoot at, no range officers everyone is on their honor. I would look in Casa Grande, Maricopa, Chandler Arizona. All great places. Open or conealed carry without a permit. Lots of ranges to shoot at or just go out in the desert and find a spot. Stay off the reservations, Indians will take your guns I hear. Mesa Arizona has nice 55 + comm. and a super nice range within 15 minutes, but the range officers there are super safety Nazis.

AZ has some good and bad things about it. I live in SE Cochise County, about 50 miles from Mex and 50 Miles from NM.

The best 1000yd ranges are in the Phoenix area, about 3 hours W and N off I-10, however, the SJW density is also high (and getting higher) in that same area. Search on "Ben Avery Range". For real estate there are a a bunch of nice (and pricey) 55+ enclaves in the area.

If I had it to do again, I'd be buying in the outer reaches of the Phoenix/Mesa area. But I'd probably also never get the deal I did here in the High Desert. From here, it's really more like an overnight trip.

My local range is 50 mi South, on the Border at Douglas; an old but still well maintained Army National Guard base with a 300 meter range. It also has a very busy CBP/ICE range right alongside the 300M range.

No CCW required, "Constitutional Carry". Immediate purchase with an AZ driver license and NICS.

Down in this area, we go through a lot of Border Patrol Checkpoints; but I've never had an issue, even when there are several cased guns in plain sight in the back of the van. The only way to avoid the checkpoints is by going off-road, and even then, they'll get you. I'm actually very glad to see those folks and their "Belgian Mali-gators".

There are so many scanners, I probably glow in the dark that night (joking, of course...).

Several CBP Agents are good friends at the VFW. Anyone who seriously believes that there's no emergency here at the border is just plain brain-dead. Most of us here go strapped, just on general principle. My EDC is an M&P Shield 9mm with Hydra-Shoks; a bit better than nothing.

Also forgot to mention that camp blanding museum has a rifle league with all proceeds going to museum and league support. Monthly 600 yd match and 1000 yd match a couple of times a year. Also shoot electronic targets so no pit duty
