As I understand it Iran was "planning" to strike first. Maybe not so much now with enough firepower to level one of their cities on their doorstep.

Look at the map of Iran. A lot of mountains in Iran. Please provide me with examples of Foreign troops quickly conquering mountain people? Mountain terrain is hard to fight on. Mountain people will kill you on every inch of it. Conquering Iran would be like conquering West By God Virginia, you might be able to do it, but it would be a long hard expensive fight.

No need to fight in the mountains and occupy the entire country. Go in, blow up the nuclear reactors, kill the leadership in Teheran if you can, and then leave. Let the Iranians sort things out between themselves afterwards.

My remembrance of military service had little to nothing to do with the way "things really are." That was a long time ago for me but I suspect it has only become worse. Today's vet will have a nervous breakdown with nothing but a DD214, shopping list long enough to fill the basket, a wad of cash and a pocket full of coin with instructions to pay in exact change, then dumped off in the middle of a major supermarket and told to get it done by himself. Twenty-two and can't do anything without a support system and scared shitless in a grocery store. Chances are he doesn't know shit yet and what he will learn and "form an opinion" on will have little to nothing to do with his service if he has any common sense left like staying away from the VA when he doesn't need to be there. If that does happen he will be truly fucked like tasked with fixing the door and deciding to drill a hole in his leg for attention.
