Shout out to Northland Shooters Supply

James is the "old" and "new".

He's got your answers, though few have a clue.
I talked to Jim Briggs shortly before he retired and he told me the new Jim (I cant recall his last name) was very knowledgeable and after a conversation with the “new” Jim I am happy to see that NSS is in good hands, he knows his shit quite well and is good with customers.

I had the same experience, back when the transition was occurring.

Does NSS actually do any of the barrel turning? Or are they chambered at the barrel manufacturers?
I dont think they do any of the cutting on the barrels. They come chambered from CBI or Shillen.

Im pretty sure they do the bead blasting though, or at least they have someone not with either CBI or Shillen do it for them.

It's too bad really. I'd like to order a Shilen prefit but I had to rechamber the barrel I bought that Shilen chambered and I'm not going through it again. I like Shilen blanks though.

My first Shilen pre fit chamber was certainly not primo but damn!!! That barrel was awesome!

The barrel and chamber has been primo every since GAP reset it. For the money I could have had a shouldered custom though. If NSS is just drop shipping someon's barrels I'll may as well have a local smith chamber a profiled blank of my choice.

If you have the tools to install the barrel a factory replacement pre-fit will save you some money. The first barrel is about $50 more if you need to buy the tools (including headspace gages).

I have brought from NSS before and the experience was wonderful. Just yesterday I emailed Jim asking about reamer specs and he had an answer to me in less than an hour. Fantastic service!

I’ve had a custom order from NSS ship directly from criterion. I think they are just a distributor.
I know he has some inventory in-stock. I purchased a Criterion 26" REM Match. James had it in stock so my barrel, nut, and lug all shipped from NSS. I purchased by Bighorn Origin action from NSS. Those too were in stock! Great company to deal with and he answers all my email questions promptly!

Yea, I’ve had the same experience. I always ask what they have on the shelf and if it doesn’t work, there is always the custom order route. I just meant they don’t fabricate in-house from what I understand.

My current 260 barrel was in stock.
The first 10 shots on new barrel with loads leftover from last barrel.

I've had very good luck with nss and criterion prefits. I've had as good luck with 6mm criterion as I've had with bart or Krieger 6mm. I wish theyd sell the blanks reasonably though. If they can sell a remage or savage prefit for 300, they cant have more than 150-175 in blank, probably less. If I could buy 6mm criterion blanks for 200-225$, I'd never switch brands.

This is a 5 shot group from my criterion I picked up from Northland. They had this one in stock and ready to go. I threw it on my nucleus and it has been awesome. This isn’t the best group it’s shot, but is pretty standard. I’ve had good results with criterion.
