Gents, I need to gain about 1/2” on my A1 stock to get a solid and consistent cheek weld on my rifle, but due to the length of the charging handle, I’m not having any luck finding something that will work.

I’m not necessarily wed to the A1 stock, but I want the 13.5” LOP it gives me and I don’t like adjustable stocks i.e. M4, etc.

Are there any solid options for adding a riser to the stock I already have that will work with the longer CH?

I know you said you don’t want to go the collapsible route but I would consider a B5 Sopmod. I run one on a 308. Every bit as comfortable as the A2 on my AR15. Cheek weld is pretty solid and I run a 1.5” mount.

Thanks for the suggestion but that’s really not what I’m hoping for. Even the Magpul PRS isn’t workable here.

I have an actual KAC/LMT SOPMOD stock assy., the whole thing including buffer, tube, etc. for sale on here. Those have a solid cheekweld and they don't wiggle like other adj. stocks do, they fit tight. SR25's and the new M110's come with these now (well, the M110 uses a Magpul version but I prefer the SOPMOD). It worked so well I built a couple rifles using SOPMODS instead of fixed stocks and have no problems. Solid cheekwelds, amazing for a collapsible stock. I use B5's too and some fit just as tight as the LMT.

There used to be cheek risers that allowed for a charging handle, they made 'em for fixed and collapsible stocks, but they were pretty tall and extended up and over to allow the charging handle to move underneath. It was cheap and it didn't work worth a damn.

In the army we'd just tape foam sleeping pad material onto the stock but depending on how you do it you may have to get creative with allowing for the charging handle or otherwise make a compromise here or there. That's gonna be your cheapest route and 100MPH tape (not the 90MPH shit) is what you want, and the pads can be found at most surplus stores cheap. You'll even have enough left over to use for a shooting mat.

I'm considering having a leather one made that laces up if I can figure out a good fit and design (damn charging handle again). It's for another KAC adj. stock but that's basically an A1 with an adj. buttplate.

There are also competition type, fully adjustable skeleton style stocks that will definitely do the job. I'd love one but they ain't cheap.

Shit now that I think of it there is a company making cheek risers for A1/A2 stocks. Bradley Cheek Rest.

Just out of dislike?

Partly. Most of my shooting is either from a bench or while hunting from a stand. Using a rear bag with my M4gery's adj. stock is a PITA. It's also partly that I don't want to have to fiddle with buying a new buffer/tube/spring and have to re-tune the gas block, and since I'm looking for height adjustment, not length, I'm not sure what the adj. stock would do for me.

The Magpul PRS "could" work, since the cheek riser is easily adjusted up/down, but the LOP is 14.3" - way too long, especially for hunting in winter clothing.

That Bradley Adjustable ain't bad, but I'd still have to loosen or remove it every time I needed to pull the CH back.

Leather Lace on? I can do that. Here's one I made for my CZ 455 Varmint (needs a bit less lacing though):

If you could find a gen2 AR15 PRS stock I want to say they were shorter.
I could never get comfy behind a gen3.
Check out the Bradley Cheek Rest. Might be what you’re looking for.

maybe figure out a way to use the LaRue spring-loaded RISR cheek riser that they have for the MAGPUL CTR stock. Improvise, adapt, overcome.

ETA: Bradley has a shorter AR version that accommodates the charging handle.

Go to Lowes, get the adhesive backed velcro that are 2"x 4" packs, I think you will need 2 packs total.

Start with the fuzzy side applied to stock in the exact place you need it. Then stick the Male and Female pieces together, as layers, adhesive side stuck together so one side is male, and the other is female. Then stack it up as to the height you need.

The last piece if velcro on top should be the male piece, and to cover the adhesive area, use whatever material that will stick and will be soft. I just used 100 mph tape to cover the very top, works perfect.

It is a solid setup, can get the perfect height you need, and if you need to adjust up or down, either add a layer, or take one off.

Cheap and easy, and looks professional without a bunch of other stuff all over your stock.

Well, I can’t find “exactly” what I want, so I’m going to try my hand with some kydex. I found a pic of a cheek riser that gave me an idea so I’ve modified the design a bit and we’ll see how it works.

The circles represent Line 24 snaps. I’ll install the male portion of the snaps on the stock and the female on the riser. The cutout at the back (right) will give me a little clearance. The snaps will act as pivots so that when I need to pull the charging handle back, I can pivot the front of the riser up and out of the way without having to remove it. A piece of EVA foam, rubber or other material can be used to support the front of the riser.

My kydex arrives next Tuesday so I’ll post the results next week.

I had Precision Underground make a cheek riser it has Velcro on the bottom side of the cheek weld area. I can take it off to charge the handle or just slide the Sopmod all the way back to charge.

Weibad pad cheap way. Luth and XLR make sweet stocks. XLR can be trimmed to fit around your charging handle recoil pad can be lowered so you mount the gun higher. Magpul seems too long for me and I have 13 3/4 pull on my bolt guns. I believe magpul has an option to get a shorter cheek rest for AR-10 platforms

Devil Dog makes a side charging handle for AR15 platforms not sure about AR10. Front hooks to pic rail rear attaches to charging their charging handle. Owner at a trade show was jumping in it. They look really good no range time with one

The normal charging handle still moves though. Wont fix anything for this situation.

Not to mention that I’d have to replace my upper and hanguard and Duracoat them all over again. I’m pretty confident that my pivoting cheek riser idea will work. I’ll get it made this week and post back.
