I currently have a Thunder Beast 338 Ultra which I absolutely love. Given the current political climate, I'm considering adding a second 338 can just to have one in the event they do something nuts like close the registry, etc.

I'm considering:

Sig SRD338Ti-QD
AAC Titan-QD

Which of these is the better choice (durability, least POA/POI shift, etc)?

I have a couple other Sig cans and have been happy with them. However, I do know the AAC was the military go-to for a time.

Thoughts?

I have the Titan QD that I have used on a 6cm, 6.5cm, 308, 300NM and 338LM. I have been really pleased with it. My only complaint is the cost of the mounts and having to stone the interface between the mount and can for a tight fit. It only took about five minutes with a fine diamond stone but for a $200 mount it should lock up tight without any modification.

I cannot speak to the sig cans, but I think they were both designed by the same group of people.

Any particular reason why you wouldn't just get another 338 Ultra?

Mainly availability.... was looking for something currently on the shelf and ready to Form 3. Figure with the Thunder Beast backlog wait the chances of getting a ‘whammy’ from our Congress critters will get worse the closer we get to Q4.

Figure if they would try and do something like close the registry or something stuff long in process would be most likely able to survive and get approved.

I would be looking hard at the KG Rogue .338 - they've certainly caught my eye. Seem well built, but not a lot of reports on them floating around. The few reports that are out there are all positive.

Be interesting to see how they compare to the 338 Ultra.

You really want a can from aac who may or may not be in business in 2 years? Or sig who basically copied everything done at aac over a tbac can with some of best cs and nicest guys in the industry ????

Dead Air needs to get to engineering us another 338 offering so we have a choice between two great companies. @Mageever

Grab a gun has AAC Titan QD's for $969. I would be all over that if I had the scratch right now. I have a 300TM which is the 300WM direct thread version of the Titan, uses the same monocore, and it's a fantastic can.

I see no way any congressional action against suppressors could be taken until 2021.

Didn't take congress to nuke bumpstocks...
With all the week knee'd politicians these days trying to score points I'd rather not gamble.

From what I've been told, when they did the Hughes Amendment that closed the registry, anything currently submitted and 'in process' got through. Everybody else was just SOL.

Not saying that's exactly how it would roll but history tends to repeat itself and Hughes and how it was rolled out created a process and framework to do a ban - with precedent.

Problem solved right here. This is a steal.

I have the Sig 338 QD, and have no complaints. The cost is hard to beat. No doubt Tbeast and Titan are good options as well. The 2 piece design mount for the Sigs are very nice as well and cheap.

Liberty or AAC or AWC or Surefire are all great cans but without subsonic ammo, your noise reduction will be minimal.
If your intent is recoil suppression, then you are looking in the wrong direction. There are several really good brakes on the market for recoil reduction.

I have personally shot a. 338. It does not kick very hard, but then again, I shoot a. 300 Win Mag quite a bit also. If you are not used to shooting a large caliber weapon, you can develop a flinch very easily.

Hope this helps.

I love my Titan QD but the mounts are a bitch. $200 a pop for a basic break mount is ridiculous so make sure that you factor that into the equation if you plan on swapping between rifles. If I did it all over again I would direct thread. I don’t have any experience with the TBAC .338 cans but if you like yours and have the mounts it might be wiser to get a second one.

I have a Titan QD and so dose my friend.. we mostly shoot 300WM out of it and works great.. have shot it on 338 it suppresses fine but when you start getting in to suppressing a 338 it starts to pound you a little more.. I did not even know they where going for that cheap..

But the Sig can would be considered an evolution since the sig cans where designed buy the same people.

FWIW, those guys won’t do a transfer because they r petty aren’t making any money off of it. My SOT is 100% silencer shop kiosk as well and handled a transfer from mile high no issues.

Well, it looks like you got squared away and no way in hell anyone could fault a TBAC, but when I needed a .338 can and was trying to stock up prior to 41F, I went with the Elite Iron .338 can (I had others to buy and couldn't swing the TBAC I wanted at that time). In a lot of ways it's like the TBAC but made out of SS instead of titanium, so it does weigh a little more, but it works very well and even fits over the brake mount about 2" so as to reduce the length of the can some. And they index TDC so it's always repeatable and the shift is always vertical. Great CS and cans, the SS and fact he employs his profession as a metallurgist help keep the costs down without skimping on quality. Their .50 BMG can is an amazing tool for the cost so it was why I went with Elite for my .338.

But I'd have stayed the hell away from AAC for a number of reasons and I don't know enough about where all Sig's accessories like cans and optics and such are coming from to feel comfortable purchasing those. Some of the Sig cans look like the cheap disposable cans they sell in Europe, only made out of better materials with a few other tweaks for the American market --I could be completely wrong though.

I hear 'ya about the fear purchase, I bought a bunch prior to 41F and still wanted/needed a few more I figured I'd get over time. Then this shit starts, and I doubt the next election is gonna do us any favors, so instead of those 2 KAC 5.56 cans I wanted I got two Sakers for $499ea. ($1300 with mounts and brakes included for them both). Less than one KAC can. So I have to pull money out of my ass to make that happen and I still want another KAC PRS can though, which will likely be my last can since I stocked up already. I sure hate the damn government forcing purchases because of threats of bans. Sure makes you feel patriotic and free and proud and all that shit, doesn't it?

Totally agree and it sucks... The SOT that's handling this is hours from me because all of the closer Silencer Shop affiliated ones refuse to play. Went through this mess with my Ultra5 and that dealer now has joined the Silencer Shop cartel.

I told the three that turned me down I'd gladly pay a $100 transfer fee and any additional expenses they incurred and was told flat - if it doesn't come from SilencerShop we can't help you.

Not sure if the issue is contractual, highly discouraged or if they just want to be a @#$% about it.

AND... while I'm venting....

WTF can't someone at SilencerShop get their head out of their @#$% and order some Thunder Beast inventory so a person COULD use their system. They always make it out like there's a ThunderBeast shortage... When both Zak and Ray have told me directly it's because SS doesn't order sufficient quantities and account for the lead times.

People are always concerned about running large caliber cans on smaller caliber guns because it will be loud. I have not found that to be the case. I actually like a larger hole in case to avoid baffle strikes.

Why on earth would a sot not do a transfer for $100? Are they just to lazy now ? How much do they get payed from silencer shop?

My question exactly..... They almost act like it's a contractual thing or that it's something Silencer Shop discourages.

The one SOT that did my Ultra 5 wasn't an SS affiliate at the time and had zero issue. He recently switched and this time is was a flat 'no'.

And, it's not like Silencer Shop has the item. I've been on their wait list for over year and they still don't have any of the Thunder Beast units except the 22 Takedowns.

Doesn’t make any sense to me either....

I’m just glad I was able to find your products from other dealers/distributors. My last two experiences with Silencer Shop on your products and how their dealers behave really soured me on their entire process.

I can say though that Capitol Armory, Hansohn Brothers and Mile High rock and represent your brand very well. If it wouldn’t be for them I’d still be waiting.
