Gunsmithing Any Gunsmiths that will re-barrel a Steyr Pro Hunter?

If the smith can cut metric threads, they should be able to rebarrel it. I did one maybe 5 years ago, professional hunter in 25-06 with a Rock bbl. I hear back from that customer every now and then and supposedly it shoots great and he loves it. I do remember an odd tennon on the barrel, large relief groove, and two diameter tennon with a metric pitch. I don't think it's a common one to rebarrel, but it's not really any tougher to do than anything else. In that 25-06 rifle's case, the guy used it for hunting, but also liked 'shooting' and figured he had a few thousand rounds through it. The throat was pretty toasted.
Well, not the one I did. That said, it was the professional model, not pro hunter, but to me the actions look the same. The one I barreled had the hard plastic stock that was fairly flimsy, but it shot well.

Looks like I got lucky, as it seems the pro-hunter is press-fit.... Probably won't find anyone in the US to do it.

Just received an email directly from the Steyr factory confirming the Prohunter barrel and receiver is indeed threaded.
"There are plenty of people put off this rifle as they are wrongly advised that it can't be rebarrelled, or it can but only by returning to Steyr, or only by specialist machinery at huge cost. It beats me why anyone would want to proffer any advice unless they knew for sure?
Anyway, armed with that knowledge, Peter at Armalon tells me a rebarrel will be £100 cheaper at just under £600 all in. This seems pretty competitive to me.
Does this compare well with other gunsmiths?"

I verified this info. Called Steyr in AL and spoke with the gunsmith. Barrel is threaded.. 26mm - 1.5mm (SBS action). So if you can find a gunsmith that will rebarrel metric threads, you are good. I called http://mcgowenbarrel.com/ and they said they can do it. Still calling around for more options. Hoping that Hart barrels will also work out.

Yeah, it’s an old thread, but finding accurate information on Steyrs takes some digging. Having recently picked up an SBS actioned Steyr, I too have found that many folks are under the impression they are press fit barrels. Herbert, the rifle guy at Steyr USA, confirmed to me all Steyr rifles post-SSG 69 are threaded.
That's funny, when I asked Herbert that question, he said "what's wrong with the barrel on it"..
I confirmed that Mcgowen and Hart will do the rebarrel.. Hart is the better choice but their wait time was like a year. Mcgowen was around 3-4 months.
I have the 6.5 CM THB and I can pull under 1/2 MOA @100yds with Prime 130g ammo all day off a bipod. I just ordered some copper creak load dev pack.. see what I can get out of that.. with the 153 Aluminum Tip.
Also went with the boyd's varmit stock.. pretty solid but didn't come anywhere close to fitting the THB. Pain in the but cutting out the stock and trying to make it look good.. used a drimel saw blade.. then sanded the poop out of it.
I think knowing this info, it would be worth investing in the manners or mcmillian stocks.

Good shootin’! The Manners stock is tempting. I only just finished mounting the optics this evening, so I’m not thinking about stock changes anytime soon.
