I THINK I want a 6.5PRC custom hunting rig. I’m in love with foundation stocks but not opposed to manners. This will be for hunting big deer on a power line. I’ve emailed a few smiths with no reply. Perhaps calling is a better method.

Suggestions on what smith to call, action, barrel profile, and stock would be much appreciated.

I second TS Customs. They just finished my hunting rifle and I couldn't be happier with the communication or the work they performed. You need to define what is "light" to you. Some people want sub 7lbs, and others are more comfortable at 10lbs. If money isn't an option then pick out one of the titanium actions, have a Proof carbon fiber barrel chambered for it, and put it in one of the Manners Elite Hunter stocks, and you should stay under 10 lbs depending on what scope you choose.

“Foundations are heavy as hell, it sounds like you want a heavier gun but you say light”

I was not aware foundations were heavy
4lbs minimum is what they told me on the phone

id go for an agcomposites or a McMillan. You could get a McMillan fiberglass in mcwalnut if you want that wood look. I have one of those on order I’m excited for

Another vote for Travis at TSCustoms. Just got my 22in proof 6.5 PRC barreled action back from him last week. Went .125 freebore for the 156gr bergers. He does excellent work.

And the gun was going to be light til I put a NF ATACR and suppressor on it. ?

Mark Pharr at Tumbleweeds Custom Rifles does great work. He is known for his silhouette rifles, which must weigh under 8.5 lbs with glass and magazine to be in compliance with NRA rules. For action choice, it's hard to beat Tikka for the money.

I went 6.5 PRC, shooting factory Hornady 143 ELDX. Origin action, Proof 7 twist 26" barrel, ultra light Jet Blast brake from PVA, McMillan A3 carbon fiber stock with Stockdoc cheek riser, Triggertech Special, and Hawkins Precision bottom metal and scope rings. Built by Short Action Customs. Put a cold bore shot thru the lungs at 936yds on this buck this fall, couldn't be happier. Loaded it weighs 10lbs even.

How's the balance on the rifle? Considering something similar but was concerned about a heavier scope/front end. Does the KMW help balance it out?

I went 24” proof TL3 prefit and Manners mini chassis. Pretty handy. Could lose a pound going without mini chassis.

There’s going to be nothing light about a Revelation. And yes have one of those too. They need to come up with the Fig Leaf if you want ultra light micarta. Just enough to cover the action and have a hand hold ala the old Kifaru rambling rifle.

Balances at front side of magazine. KMW definitely made a difference, along with the ultralight brake. I was surprised at the balance shift from the Hellfire brake to ultralight brake..
