Whats the difference between 6.5 grendel type 1 and 2

Bolt face depth is .136 and .125, but I can never remember which is which. In my mind the shallower depth (.125) will be stronger as there is more support for the bolt lugs directly behind it.

.125 is type 1 which is the standard 5.56 depth I believe and what is used on 7.62x39 bolts
The reasoning for the .136 type 2 was to make the extractor lip thicker and stronger I believe. Type 2 is the most common and what Alexander Arms uses, maybe created.

.136 is the type 2 and on the 65grendel boards is often referred to as Mk136. This is now the most common and I believe industry standard. I have had 3 .136 bolts with no issues.

The rims on the Lapua brass are thicker than a 5.56 so a standard extractor would not snap over the rim. The easiest fix back then was to make the recess deeper while opening up the diameter. 1 op to fix both problems. It did make the extractor stronger at the expense of making the bolt lugs weaker. The best way would have been to move the pivot pin of the extractor forward. The extractors AA used on all of the Grendel bolts in the beginning were MILLED 7.62x39 extractors. They were sold by Rguns 3-4 years ago.
