Behind enemy lines comifornia
I just bought this stock off another forum to put my 700 sps tactical in. The holes are so off center I can't get the action in without it pushing on the bolt release. And the bolt handle hits. I think I'm going to chuck it up in a bench top mill and open it up to take a magpul "bottom metal". I'll machine it more on one side so that the bolts will be centered. Unless somebody has another recommendation.

Nah, it was not that much money. I was sanding off some paint and looking at it more. HS was having a bad day. The holes are correct they just machined the inlet for the bottom metal off to the side. I think opening it up to fit the magpul will solve the problem. We'll see.

You would think they would use close tolerance jig so that couldn't happen. Should have been rejected upon inspection and sawn in half so seconds don't make it out the factory back door.

I’m happy with my HS Precision stocks. I have a bell and Carlson tactical stock that was off like that. I did a bunch of work to it and it turned out ok. There’s a reason Manners and McMillian have a wait for a stock...

The B&C I just got was flawless to my eyes and fit perfectly. That being said, I think you're right. But I think QC, as well as manufacturing standards and safeguards lack with the cheaper stocks. I don't think its necessarily "lucky" to get a good HS or B&C as much as it is unlucky to receive a crappy one. The risk of getting a bad one is just higher.

IME just because you wait 8 months for a manners doesn’t mean the inletting will be worth a damn.

You definitely got ripped off. Thst looks like a bubba pillar job... I've had 10 or more HS Precision stocks, non had that issue or looked like that..

You bought a used bubba'd up stock off another forum and you come here to say HS Precision stocks are trash?? Lmfao. Buy one brand new not modified by some idiot and you'll see what they look like.

Here's what they look like brand new...

If you read the title, it says "hs precision stock is garbage". STOCK. not "STOCKS" This was not a bash a company thread. Looking at the stock it's not a "bubba" job. Its a bad stock. Reading many threads about different stocks it's pretty common to find inletting problems. And if you buy new you can send it back. I bought a used one for a deal and don't mind doing a little work as its not going to be a show gun and I enjoy it. I posted the thread because there is a wealth of knowledge here and I wanted to see if anybody had ideas on how to fix it before I started cutting. I couldn't buy a "new" stock for what I paid and if I was going to shell out the cash for a new one I knew, even before I bought this one, that it would not be a hs precision. But I'm cheap! So I'll sand, grind fit and paint. I just hope it shoots better than a factory stock add I don't have to bed it.

OK, you got a reject stock for cheap that a dumpster-diver sold you with or without disclosure. We'll move on.

Is it the inlet or the pillars that are set wrong? Rather than re-inletting everything, maybe just re-drill the pillar holes to center in the inlet (cheap & quick)? Or, remove and re-install the pillars (less cheap & quick).

They don't have pillars. H-S uses a bedding block. Think mini chassis.
The blocks are bolted into the mould then laid up, closed up and cooked.

If the inletting is off, it's an easy fix.
If the bedding block is installed crooked, H-S will take care of it.
Completely jacked stocks get cut up before going into the dumpster.

Wait you started a thread call " HS Precion Stock is Garbage" but you had no intention of bashing a company? Then what was your intent on started the thread in the first place?

@smoothy8500 as mike said it's not pillars. It is the In letting that's off so it should be as simple as opening it up on one side. I have never done it before but it sounds petty straight forward. I did talk to the PO and he said he had an action in it that he hunted pigs with. He offered to take it back but I'm committed to this project at this point.

Does anybody have a suggestion to aligning the new bottom metal inlet? I was going to make some metal dowels that fit in the screw holes and then slide the bottom metal down those so I can mark out the lines and keep it aligned as I cut and test fit.
If that makes any sense without pictures.

Yeah, forgot it was a bedding block.

Considering the screw holes are a slightly larger diameter than the actual screw, dowels that fit straight won't fit through the bottom metal. Use long 1/4" bolts with the heads cut off and screwed into the receiver. With the receiver in the bedding-block, you'll be properly aligned and can scribe around the bottom metal.

Looks good.
I installed a magpul BM into a MacMillan stock and it feeds great.
Once in a while it'll refuse to let the bolt go forward. If I hit the release and close the bolt, then push the mag back up its fine.
It's happened like 5 times in 700 rounds.
I did make some dummy cartridges to get the stock depth correct before cutting.

I think if I put a small bevel on the back of the mag, it'll get rid of the issue.
