Like it says. I'm new to Texas and only having experience with pygmy rattlers in Eastern WA where we lived I want to carry my .357 wheel guns for snakes. Eastern WA snakes are little compared to what I've seen here. Only ever carried .22 bird shot.

Unless you reload your fairly limited. CCI is pretty much the only commonly available. Go with smaller shot as the #4 etc has very little pattern. If you have a 45acp, that can work as well. Reliably cycles all my 45s and has a decent amount more shot. the best I have seen outside of actual shotgun shells is 45 lc.
I do have a RIA 1911 but it's a little finicky on feeding anything but hardball. Maybe I'll give a box a try, thanks for the feedback.
RCBS use to make die kit for rolling your own from anything with a .473 head size. I bought the kit back in the 70's an you can make your own that will cycle any 45acp, plus I've never had a feeding issue in any 45acp. The RCBS p/n is/was 55000
38 shot shells are easy to make with either the Speer capsules or by using a 357 case an nosing over the end using heavy gasket material to hold the shot in. A piece of thick gasket material or gas check over the powder insures a good push on the shot. # 9 works best for me in 38, but for 45 I've had better luck with # 8's
I’ve never had a problem with CCI shotshells. 38spl and 40sw shells have taken care of quite a few copperheads and cotton mouth water moccasins without a second shot needed.

i cut loose at a rabbit once with the cci 45 shotshell......distance of about 13 yards and it knocked that bunny over dead. i was pretty surprised.

I did know a guy that had shot many a snake with the cci capsules. He swore by the #12 shot over the 9. He said the smaller shot required you to be closer, but had more of an instant killing effect on a snake....not that you can ever trust a “dead” snake. Their primitive systems do weird shit. Saw a video or two of deheaded, skinned, and gutted snakes reacting to people. That’s some fucked up shit.
