I get the younger crowd probably wouldn't watch 5 seconds of this so this is for us um advanced aging population. Gotta be over a year ago I stumbled upon these entire series commercial free on yootoobs which I absolutely LOVED as a kid....and I'm finishing Cousteau tonight and loved it even more. JC is the reason I got my PADI license in 1985! Will dive into Wild Kingdom more in 2020. Anyway if you are anything like me I find almost nothing on television worth watching these days and Hollywood lost me years ago......maybe someone who enjoyed these shows will find this interesting. As a matter of fact I could swear I posted this at one point, but guess not

How about this: MOA actually stands for Mutual Of Omaha!

They had an episode where they were trying to capture a python and it got sketchy......as in wrapped around neck and waist.....you could see the look in their eyes like 'ok this just got serious we need to get this resolved quickly' as they were dragged into neck deep water.

Last Christmas I binge watched all of Jacques Cousteau and Mutual of Omaha in the shop... it's all free on YouTube!

Great shows from when I was a kid. Sparked a lifelong interest in learning and science and nature as a kid. And it is such a pleasure to watch stuff that doesn't even mention Global Climate Change once... much less blame it for everything from Yap drowning to Wildebeestes getting eaten by crocs.

What counts as 'Eductional' now? Apparently Survivor island and getting chased by a bear.

    Ghey!

    Cheers,

    Sirhr

I remember that one very well. Saw it as a kid and it left quite the impression on me. Scared the heck out of me and I was sure that the next episode would have a new “Jim”.

    Er... Wouldn't that be MOO??

    The sound a Wildebeeste makes?

Does anyone wonder why the heck the Wildebeestes don't just look over and say "Shit... they are setting up a camera over there. One of us is about to get eaten by a lion. We better get out of here." Guess they are not critical thinkers.

    Cheers,

I wasn't too much of a Wild Kingdom fan. Watched it on occasion but didn't go out of my way.

Cousteau's show...….now that was a different matter. I was mesmerized by that shit, since I've been drawn to the ocean since I was kid

“While Jim wrestles with the man eating tiger, I’ll get a better vantage point from inside the Land Rover...”

It was on at 1830 Sunday nights, right before the Wonderful World of Disney.

I wish my kids had the opportunity to have experienced such basic, simple times....
Yup. Those were the two shows we were allowed to watch, once a week on Sunday nights. On the used black and white tv in the family room.

My parents were not big fans of TV and history bears out their intelligence in that choice.

add another kid that watched it. fuck poor jim. there were times i swear marlin was actually trying to get old jim killed...makes me wonder if he caught jim banging his wife at some point.

“this pit of tigers, they need to be tagged. jim is going to jump in to hog tie each one so they can be safely tagged by the rest of the crew” and jim would dive right in and get on it. fucking jim had brass balls and an apparent death wish. my army buddies and i would laugh about that shit in the suck.

"Jim, how about catching and wrestling that full grown male lion to the ground. While all of the females around him are in heat and they are eating a fresh kill. I'll be in the truck." - Marlin Perkins

Jim had balls made of solid stainless steel.

Sunday night ritual to watch Wild Kingdom followed by Disney.

Sundays used to be filled with Cousteau and Wildlife shows.

Interesting thing about than vs now regards wild life they showed the reality. The wolf caught the rabbit and ate it. Now all the rabbits seem to just barely escape.

If Cousteau (Philleeepe is getting in zee Heelicopter to scout aheed of Caleepso), Wild Kingdom or Disney were not on there was always Leonard Nimoy "In Search Of".

This. The first thing I thought of after reading the thread title was tuning in every Sunday night at 1830 for these two shows - without fail. Are you sure Marlin was first? I was thinking Disney came on before Wild Kingdom. Maybe not...long time ago!

Those were the good old days. We had 4 channels to choose from and the only time the tv was really ours to watch was on Saturday morning (cartoons) until it was time to go out and do chores. Wild kingdom was getting to the end of its run about the time I got old enough to pay attention but I was all about Marty Stouffer’s Wild America. The only thing I couldn’t stand to watch was Lawrence Welk. I was home last year visiting the folks and I’ll be damned if my dad didnt find a channel that is still playing reruns of that shit. Was still painful to watch.:)

    Not a chance brother.

With age, current things get fuzzy and memories of youth get clearer, and clearer with every passing year.

    Do you remember 'Liberace'??

And bottom line, today, Costeau would be a leftist environmentalist.?
